Katie Bethune - Leamen

British new wave band OMD has already provided the soundtrack for Katie Bethune-Leamen’s 2009 Nuit Blanche piece, Ghost Chorus: Dirge for Dead Slang—a sample of their “The Romance of the Telescope” played while performers covered in glow-in-the-dark sheets recited obsolete slang words. Dazzle Shizzle, Bethune-Leamen’s first exhibition with the gallery MKG127, recalls the name of OMD’s most complex album, Dazzle Ships, named after the multi-coloured, geometric camouflage painted on naval ships during the First and Second World Wars in order to confuse potential attackers. The show consists of drawings, paintings, video and sculptures. Artwork $500–$3,000.—David Balzer
