Franco DeFrancesca's abstract works are reminiscent of those of American artist Jeremy Blake, who created the cover for Beck’s 2002 album Sea Change. Informed by the tradition of colour-field painting, DeFrancesca uses digital technology to create primary images—blurred, bright lines or dots of varying hues—which he subsequently prints and mounts on Masonite panels and layered plywood, finishing them off with a resin coating. His current series is called Plasma Gels, the perfect name for a body of work as lusciously viewable (and marketable) as this. Artwork $2,500–$6,000. —David Balzer
