Elinor Whidden and 12 Point Buck

Whidden’s photographs are an awesome riposte to the tradition of the rugged, manly Canadian explorer. Dressed in a tuque and cargos, and muscularly gripping a rifle made out of car parts, Whidden poses in iconic, picturesque settings like Georgian Bay, looking hot, triumphant and subversive all at once. Lethbridge artists Leila Armstrong and Chai Duncan, a.k.a. 12 Point Buck, make funny animal art like so many of their contemporaries, playing on anthropomorphic tropes in contemporary culture. $800–$2,000.—David Balzer
