The Berlin-based artist makes sculptural pieces out of Silastic, a silicone rubber that, through her manipulation, uncannily mimics the appearance and texture of human skin (the pink kind, at least). Dakovic’s “Mer-made Products”—inflatable Silastic objects, such as life jackets, air mattresses, water wings and lifesavers, accented with moles, tattoos and real human hair—seem made out of the very sailors who might have used them to stay afloat. Video and photography are also part of Dakovic’s arsenal; she is best known for her Trying to… photo series, in which she interacts goofily with an inflatable Silastic sphere named Hybrid. Artwork $1,500–$5,000.—David Balzer
