Denyse Thomasos

Painter Denyse Thomasos—who was born in Trinidad, raised in Canada and resides in the U.S.—creates large-scale works in acrylic that are best described as architectural. Her at once swooping and boxy forms recall infrastructure both public and private, specifically scaffolding. Her gestural lines and the vibrancy of her palette also suggest graffiti, which is appropriate, as Thomasos has been engaged in completing several public murals over the past decade and has an interest in how artistic vernaculars describe the experiences of different cultural and subcultural groups. Artwork prices TBA.—David Balzer
