This year, the citywide fest’s theme is “the constructed image”: the subjective, duplicitous and stylized nature of the photograph. The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art hosts the banner exhibit, which features South Korea’s Kim Joon (who takes photos of naked models tattooed or painted with corporate logos) and Britain’s Sam Taylor-Wood (who, when not working with such celebs as Elton John, probes the veracity of the self-portrait), among others. Public art includes Montrealer Isabelle Hayeur’s deconstructions of cityscapes on the façade of the Drake Hotel, and Douglas Coupland’s parodies of contemporary visual culture at transit shelters along Queen West West. —David Balzer
