Chinese Design. Everyday.

Opening with a party on Chinese New Year, this exhibit celebrates the rich history of contemporary Chinese design culture from the 1950s to today. Communist propaganda posters give way to the more corporate, Westernized design approaches of the 1980s and beyond; a hybrid aesthetic, including a return to pre-Maoist traditions, characterizes more recent examples of advertising. There is also a marked dedication to product innovation, such as the brightly coloured Suzhieal “roll-up” calculator from 1991. Artwork not for sale.—David Balzer
