Architecture of Community

Jane Jacobs’ considerable legacy is carried on in theory and, sometimes, in practice, at many Toronto galleries, including Gallery 1313. In addition to ongoing outreach programs (panels with Spacing editors and U of T faculty; a storytelling session), the 1313 hosts this exhibit on the effect of space on community building. Participating artists include OCAD faculty member Paul Aloisi, whose installations often require direct public engagement, and Taliya Cohen, who makes sculpture from such cast-off items as cardboard and duct tape. Work by Derek Liddington (last seen at Clark and Faria’s Bowie group show) appears in the gallery’s street-facing window box. Artwork prices TBA.—David Balzer
