Andrew Wilson

Andrew Wilson's paintings and drawings have a boyish quality to them: if they are science fiction landscapes, they are of a rough sort, the kind you might find in a high school student’s graph notebook. This is especially true of his recent pen-and-ink work, which flirts with the psychoanalytical, making associations between housing complexes, mountains, spaceships and beards. His first solo show combines these drawings with his more complex paintings (a highlight of Magic Pony’s 2007 Mittenfists show), in which surreal, richly coloured landscapes are given curious depth via layers of resin. Artwork $500–$3,000.—David Balzer
