It could be their 1,000-yard stares. Or their lumbering gaits. Or maybe we’re flattered by their insatiable attraction to our flesh. Whatever the reason, Torontonians love their zombies. With the release of Bruce McDonald’s new film, Pontypool, a clever creepfest shot in a church basement in the Junction, the gore orgy shows no sign of abating. Here, proof that our city has become a breeding ground for ghouls.
The Zombie Walks
It all started in 2003, when seven friends shuffled around town dressed as their favourite celluloid menaces. Five years later, the putrid parade drew more than 3,000 devotees to Trinity-Bellwoods Park and has caught on in such cities as Chicago and Brisbane.
