Charles Khabouth may be the city’s nightlife king, but who are the heirs to his throne? Keep an eye on these impresarios, who hold some pretty impressive court of their own. And, although they’ve already helped much of Toronto get down or, at the very least, get legless, they’re not putting their well-shod feet up: these gents have expansion on the brain. Four names that are most definitely on the list.
Richard Lambert, The Social
The son of a Canterbury pub owner, this 27-year-old Brit moved to Toronto in 1999 intent on opening his own place. While paying his dues as a waiter, he met future business partner Jesse Girard. They opened their grungy hipster hangout last year.
Dress Code: Low-rise, slim-fitting black pants from J. Lindeberg,
vintage T-shirt and Dolce & Gabbana denim blazer.
Ride: A black 1971 Dodge Charger 500. "I've spent a ridiculous amount of money on it."
Brush With Celebrity: “I loved having Johnny Knoxville in my bar, but my favourite was Clive Owen (in town filming Shoot ’Em Up). He flirted with the wait staff, and we ended up at an after-hours club.”
Primo Party: A fête for K’naan’s crew; the Somalian rapper
performed for a crowd that included Mos Def.
Regular Midnight Nosh: A cheeseburger from Hero Burgers.
Drink of Choice: Scotch and Coke. "I know, it's really disgusting."
Up Next: A 1,250-square-foot expansion for the Social. "More room for more guys to get laid."
