Accepting a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame this September, Bryan Adams showed obvious affection for his homeland: “You can realize your dreams in this country,” he told the audience at the Four Seasons Centre. “I’m living proof.” Living proof unless his dream happened to be receiving the VIP treatment at the film festival. Just one night earlier, Big Bry showed up at the Soho Metropolitan for the after party for It Might Get Loud, a documentary starring three other guitar heroes: Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White. Like the soft-spoken Canadian he is, Adams arrived sans fanfare, and even gave his first name at the check-in. Problem was, the door staff—who were still in utero when “Summer of ’69” came out—had no idea who he was. “Bryan…Bryan…Bryan…,” muttered one clueless clipboard holder while leafing through the guest list. The awkward factor escalated until, finally, the door bunny was informed of her unpatriotic gaffe, and Adams was swiftly ushered to the VIP lounge. Cuts like a knife, don’t it, Bry?—Serena Trevis
