As Sam Mitchell knows all too well, the world of pro sports can be fickle. One minute the Raptors’ top dog is NBA Coach of the Year, the next he’s getting the boot midway through a four-year contract. Shortly after his dismissal, the famously fashionable Mitchell quit his downtown Toronto residence for Atlanta, but one thing he won’t be looking for in his home town is a new tailor. Ross Figliano of Woodbridge’s Figliano Custom Tailors says that Mitchell has continued to order dapper duds despite the move. “He’s a customer for life,” reports the Raptors’ go-to garb guy, who has been servicing the six-foot-seven coach’s fashion fetish since Mitchell moved to Toronto back in 2004. Other valued customers include Rap stars Andrea Bargnani, Jose Calderon, Will Solomon and Nathan Jawai. “When you’re as tall as these guys, you can’t exactly shop off the rack,” says Figliano, whose custom-made suits for basketball stars run somewhere around $3,000. (“They like the good stuff,” he says.) As for whether he’s a sports fan, he cops to rarely missing a game but won’t say whether VIP tailors get VIP treatment. “Let’s just say my seats are good.”—Serena Trevis
