Ring in the New Year with these kicky shows and concerts By Laura Trethewey
Last year’s tribute performance
The Coronation of a King
Juno Award–winning clarinetist Bob DeAngelis fronts the 50-piece Champagne Symphony in an afternoon celebration at Roy Thomson Hall. The annual tribute to 1930s riot act Benny Goodman fits the bill for jazz lovers looking to get some shut-eye on the big night.

When: 2 p.m.
How much: $39–$99 at Roy Thomson Hall box office.
Skin Tight Outta Sight Rebel Burlesque Presents Raunch ’n’ Roll New Year’s
A punk burlesque mash-up, the Skin Tight team is a veteran Toronto act known for its flamboyant shows. This year’s annual NYE bash is sure to draw in a young and underdressed crowd from the surrounding Queen West area.
Where: Gladstone Hotel, 1214 Queen St. W. (at Gladstone Ave.), 416-531-4635, www.skintightouttasight.com.

Heather Bambrick Trio at Home Smith Bar
Heather Bambrick, the dulcet-voiced host of Jazz FM91’s Sunday program, plays an intimate night at the Old Mill Inn with her trio. The cozy bar always sells out at the last minute to a crowd of jazz aficionados, who warmly fête one another at midnight.

Celebrate Life, Celebrate Muzik
The beaux arts building that houses Muzik Club has a hedonistic vibe perfect for stylish blowouts. Finding an act to top last year’s Cirque Envol—a high-flying acrobatics team that performed above the crowded pavilion—will prove difficult, but professional partiers will schlep out to the CNE for a promising spectacle.
Where: 15 Saskatchewan Rd. (at Exhibition Place), 416-595-9998, www.muzikclubs.com.
When: doors at 9 p.m.
How much: $75 from Ticketmaster.ca; prices increase after this date.
