If the holidays have left you feeling bloated, self-indulgent and broke, maybe it’s time to consider a personal improvement or two
Quick Fix
Fight flab with these five surefire workouts
Look Like Madonna
The pitch—shake yourself to a tighter bod in just minutes a day—sounds like an infomercial, but an endorsement from the extremely hard-bodied Madonna earns the Fit-Vibe some cred. A vibrating platform is the stage for 12 minutes of weights or stretching; do it three times a week and the purported result is tighter muscles and increased bone density. $1 per minute, with $59–$70 monthly membership.

Banish the Beer Gut
If six-packs are compromising your six-pack, try a class of core-centred action: after a nutrition lecture, warm up with jumping jacks and snow angels, work the whole body by sprinting while dragging a weighted sled or tossing around a kettle bell, then tone up with squats, twists and punches. $200 for 10 weekly sessions.
Dynamic Conditioning Centre, 25 St. Nicholas St., 416-929-7812.
Build Instant Muscle
Personal trainer Wayne Campbell (favoured by many a Bay Street bigwig) focuses on working an entire area at once. His regimen consists of sequences of chin-ups, bench presses and squats in four sets of six to 12 reps, at least two times a week. Campbell’s secret weapon? Sleep. “You’ll only grow if you give your body an opportunity to recover and rebuild,” he says. Private sessions $85 each or 10 for $700; semi-private sessions $55 or 10 for $400.

Fit Into Your Wedding Dress
Trainer Christine Steiger can have you nuptial-ready in six weeks (although three months is preferable). Since the strapless trend shows no sign of waning, be prepared for a lot of lateral raises and tricep press-downs to sculpt your arms and shoulders. $99 per month.
Christine’s, 912 Yonge St., 416-969-9912.
Find Your Balance
Try a few sun salutations at this women-only oasis before slipping into the pool to continue the karmic flow with aqua ashtanga yoga. Instructor Andrea Smith developed the class to help students who were having trouble with their stability (tree poses seem easier in the water). $100 for 10 classes with membership.
