White night, big city: Amber’s annual bash
It was a hot night with a hotter guest list as our city’s social staples gathered at Amber for the fifth annual White Party, a favourite fête among the young, the tanned, the buff and anyone else who can pull off head-to-toe white without looking like Baby Beluga. The host of the extravagant evening (Veuve, Belvedere and lobster quesadillas were all on the complimentary menu) was Amber’s own Toufik Sarwa, the go-to guy for über-elite soirées. Asked about his inspiration for the party, Sarwa explains, “It’s about feeling like you’re on vacation in St. Barts or Mykonos.” What it’s not about is a certain American rap mogul, whose annual White Parties in the Hamptons are legendary. “I don’t know how long P. Diddy has been doing his parties,” says a slightly defensive Sarwa, “but my parties have nothing to do with him.” As for the unforgiving dress code, the man in charge sees it more as a time to shine: “I like to give my VIP customers a chance to show off their style, and when you have a bunch of blondes in white, it’s a beautiful thing.”
