Marc Thuet launches a relaxed (but still totally Euro-centric) neighbourhood joint By Sasha Chapman

In New York, gastropubs and noodle bars get just as many accolades as three-star joints. But here in Toronto, casual spots with accomplished cooking are as foreign as boudin noir. Marc Thuet and Biana Zorich have taken matters into their own hands, adding a loft-like restaurant-bar to Atelier Thuet—the sort of place where you can hang out and watch the football game (or a Brigitte Bardot flick). The menu features a range of noshables, from $3 bites of raclette and $12 steamed Berkshire pork belly buns to more substantial fare, such as Thuet’s peerless charcuterie and famous choucroute garnie. Anything goes; if you’re hankering for something that’s not on the menu, you can purchase a cut of meat at the deli counter, grab a seat on the leather couch, and for an additional $8, Thuet will cook it up for you with vegetables and frites.

Atelier Thuet, 171 East Liberty St., Unit 153, 416-603-2777.
