The Seller: Who else but Brennan, go-to builder for Toronto’s elite, would see a grungy, stucco-clad apartment building on the western fringe of Rosedale and envision a grand palazzo? In 1999, he snapped up the U-shaped 1920s complex, gutted it and converted the northern half into commercial space, which he sold a few years ago. What remained was a neat box on the south side, and Brennan knew just what to do with the angular form. “My first box was a dry cleaner on Sherwood, which I turned into a house for myself,” he says. (Media mogul Allan Slaight lives there now.) This was followed by a large building on Clarendon that had been used as a CIBC training centre. He converted it into several homes, one of which houses Sherritt chairman Ian Delaney and his wife, money manager Kiki Delaney.
