Kimberley Newport-Mimran
The Pink Tartan designer, showing at fashion week, picks the 10 things she can’t live without By Amy Verner
1. Getting juiced
The stainless steel Angel Juicer macerates my wheat grass at home. I do at least a shot a day. I can’t juice at the office; it’s a bit messy. So I have an All Green juice from Fresh by Juice for Life every day. I’ll get the Refresher or the Liver Flush when I’ve been out too much.
2. My reading refuge
In my office, I’ve amassed a library of fashion photography, art and lifestyle books, and vintage issues of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar that I’ve been collecting since I first started designing. I go back to them whenever I want some inspiration.
3. My fancy cream alternative
I’ve been reading that you shouldn’t put anything on your skin that you couldn’t ingest. So for more than a year, I’ve been using pure rosehip oil (Whole Foods Market)
on my face. It makes my skin glow.
4. My stress-relieving swim
We have a saltwater pool, which is so much better
for your skin than chlorine. Depending on the weather, I’ll do laps into late September. I swim to relax, not necessarily as exercise.
5. Luscious lashes
I love Kiss Me mascara (Delineation) because it never, ever smudges. It coats your lashes with tubes, making them look like little spiders, and it comes off the same way.
6. The lady in red
My husband, Joe, and I have been collecting art for a while, but Stephan Balkenhol’s Lady in the Red Dress was our first sculpture. When I walk into the house, it’s one of my favourite things to look at. We found her at Art Basel Miami Beach.
7. My favourite heirloom
My grandmother gave me her mink stole when I was
22. She passed it down because I was so into fashion. I’ve paired it with a vintage dress for New Year’s.
8. A wardrobe of white shirts
A good white shirt boils down to fit, fabric and freshness.
I have about 100, most of them cotton—an area of my closet is devoted to them.
9. My coiffure
confidant
I’ve been going to Marco at Angst for more than seven years, since
my daughter Jacqui was born. He encourages me to take
risks, like a pixie cut.
10. My Audrey Hepburn fix
She was so well put together
and inspiring. I see her films differently now that I work in fashion; the clothing transformed her.
She was always lovely but never took herself too seriously.
