The List
Jessi Cruickshank
The MTV host, best known for her armchair commentary on The Hills: After Show, picks the 10 things she can’t live without By Amy Verner
1. My vintage obsession
I have about 35 pairs
of vintage pointy pumps. Sometimes I’ll score them
for $3 from Value Village,
but I’ll pay more when they’re from the couture
vintage store Paperbag Princess (287 Davenport
Rd., 416-925-6203).
2. My post–After Show ritual
We typically don’t get out until 11:30 on Monday nights. The only place open within walking distance of the MTV building is Burgundy’s Bar & Eatery (780 Yonge St., 416-924‑1186). My co-host,
Dan Levy, our producer Garrett Wintrip and I are often the only people there, and we’ll make jokes like “Can you put us on the guest list?”
3. How I get my kicks
I play soccer with the Toronto Central Sport
& Social Club every Thursday. We’re called The Shockers; it’s eight guys and three girls. The rule is that two girls have to be playing at all times,
so we get the sweatiest.
4. My musical addiction
I’m obsessed with The
Weakerthans. I’ve seen them
seven or eight times.
5. My SOS seamstress
Tanya Batanau Chuiko (416-461-7686) is the best in the city. She works on movies and made the now-iconic blue sequin jumpsuit for Feist. For the MTV Video Awards, she altered my Dolce
& Gabbana dress in a day.
6. What I’ll never throw away
My father brought me a
jean jacket from New York back in 1996. I was in
Grade 8. I still wear it four
or five times a week.
7. My ideal patio cocktail
Southern Accent (595 Markham St., 416-536-3211) has
a drink called the Hurricane.
It’s the most ridiculous massive purplish beverage.
8. My night-out soundtrack
I love Team Canada, a DJ duo.
I saw them once at the Calgary Stampede, and it was the most
fun I’ve ever had out dancing.
9. My faux-chicken fix
Utopia Café and
Grill (586 College St., 416-534-7751) has the most amazing grilled vegetable
and goat cheese burritos, which you can order
with fake chicken.
10. What makes me happy
I love walking to the flower stores at Av and Dav. I can’t put together a bouquet to save my life,
so I go simple, like giant pink roses in my living room.
