The Sadies
Fresh off the release of New Seasons (2007), arguably their greatest album in a decade-long run of great albums, Canada’s foremost purveyors of country-inflected psychedelic rock play for the seventh consecutive year at the Horseshoe’s New Year’s Celebration.

From Britain With Love
The Mod Club’s eighth New Year’s Eve bash will see four DJs (MRK, Bobbi Guy, Benny K and DJ DaSilva) spin electronic, dance and Brit rock, as well as a live performance from local band Afternoon Zero.

Grooveyard
Vocalist-saxophonist Lester McLean leads this jazz quintet, which features the contributions of the Neufeld-Occhipinti Jazz Orchestra’s Paul Neufeld on keyboard and Michael Occhipinti on guitar.

The Golden Dogs
Toronto-based indie-pop quintet the Golden Dogs presents music from 2006’s Big Eye Little Eye, the group’s second album and its first to receive a stateside release. The group has two sets on New Year’s Eve: one before midnight, the other after the ball drops. Another local band, The Bicycles, opens.

Magic
The entire Guvernment complex opens for Sander Kleinenberg, a man famous for both his original music (“The Fruit” and “This Is Miami”) and deejaying abilities. Expect the Dutchman to mix house, trance and progressive tracks into an impressive set. Supporting performers include local DJ stalwarts Mark Oliver, Deko-ze, Tim Patrick and more.—Robert Near

The King of Swing: A Tribute to Benny Goodman
For a second year, clarinetist Bob DeAngelis conjures up a bygone era as he leads the Champagne Symphony Pops Orchestra in a New Year’s tribute to one of the true giants of jazz.

The David Rotundo Band
The David Rotundo Band, fronted by its harmonica-playing namesake, helps the Silver Dollar celebrate its 50th anniversary with the sort of hard-core blues-rock for which the venue is known. Jerome Godboo, another mouth harp maestro, opens.

Unforgettable: Brothers in Song
Rudy Mayes headlines an all-star band in this two-and-a-half-hour production celebrating African-Americans in music, particularly the incomparable Nat King Cole. The show takes the audience on a musical odyssey, from jazz and gospel to Motown and rock ’n’ roll.

Jo Anne Tudor Latin Jazz Trio
The trio, with Jeffrey Hewer playing flamenco and jazz guitars, and Geoff Colson on percussion, will play gypsy, bossa nova and American jazz tunes in the cozy confines of the Old Mill’s Home Smith Bar.

DJ Chili Palmer
For those who don’t want to navigate through the throngs at larger venues, but still want to dance to a DJ spinning everything from New Order to Justice, College Street Bar has a party that will be pumping well into the New Year.
