Best comfort food
The University Café is all old
plastic plates and Formica, very ’60s retro. Our favourite dish is the double eggs and fresh-cut chips. 87 Byres Rd., 44 141
339 5217.
The classic bar
The Ben Nevis used to be an old man’s pub. Now it’s beautiful, with interior design inspired by the Scottish mountains: lush timber finishes, soft leathers
and a stone floor. 1147 Argyle St., 44 141 576 5204.
Cool dinosaurs
The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is a beloved and recently revamped cultural institution. It’s now reopened and looks amazing. Argyle St., 44 141 276 9599, www.glasgowmuseums.com.
The ultimate park
Glasgow is called the “dear green place” for a reason; it has more than 90 parks. Kelvingrove Park
is a traditional Victorian space with the River Kelvin running through it and the Doulton Fountain, the world’s largest terra cotta fountain. Otago St., www.glasgow.gov.uk.
The celebrity hotel
Madonna, Tina Turner and Cher have stayed here. The Hotel du Vin is incredible—old Victorian rooms with roaring fireplaces covered in marble and luxurious wood panelling. 1 Devonshire Gardens, 44 141 339 2001,
www.hotelduvin.com.
