Ten things the effervescent star of Being Erica can’t live without By Stéphanie Verge
1. Hanky Panky underwear
They’re durable, and they make you look really good when you…don’t have your jeans on. Even if you’re just out climbing
a mountain or something, it’s fun to know you’re rocking a little leopard print. It’s like having a bottle of champagne chilling in your fridge, ready for any occasion.
2. Radiohead’s In Rainbows
I play this album all the way through at least five or six times a month. When I first heard it, I was dating a very cool guy, and I was at a good place in my life, so it always makes me nostalgic.
3. Frank’s hot sauce
There’s a bottle in my trailer, one
in the hair-and-makeup trailer, and another bottle at home. I’m like
MacGyver in the kitchen. If I’ve got pickles, some mustard and Frank’s
hot sauce, I can figure something out.
4. My binder
I’d be lost without my binder, a King Kong–sized zip-around that I bought
at Staples. It’s super-nerdy: it holds four types of highlighters, reinforcements, stickers for my call sheets, and an assortment of colour-coded sticky notes for labelling my scripts by scene and date. There’s also lip balm, Listerine spray,
a voice recorder, $5 in case I want Starbucks, my iPhone and a book light.
5. My bracelet
Normally, I try to stay away from chunky jewellery, but this bracelet has a touch
of rock and roll that I connect with. It’s
by Pyrrha, a Vancouver designer I love.
I borrowed it for an awards show, and
I liked it so much I bought my own.
6. My hometown
I grew up in Jasper, and I love going back to fish, bike, hike, or just hang out in my mom’s garden. I worked as a park guide, so I know Jasper National Park inside out.
7. My sunless tan
Mary Kay tanning lotion gives you a
natural glow and doesn’t streak. I order 12 boxes at a time from a friend who
ships it to me. I love great deals.
8. Audiobooks
I used to drive a lot between Vancouver and L.A., where I lived before moving here for Being Erica, and I was addicted to audiobooks—I liked the Lance Armstrong and Oprah Winfrey autobiographies.
9. Trashy magazines
It’s embarrassing to admit, but I can’t read anything heavy in between takes
when we’re shooting. There’s too much stuff buzzing around. I’m more likely to grab
Us Weekly or InStyle.
10. Signature scents
When I’m playing Erica, I wear Covet, the Sarah Jessica Parker perfume. And when I’m not working, I wear Dolce
and Gabbana’s The One. It’s light and good for all seasons.
