Easter in Toronto

Six ways to keep yourself (and your kids) busy this holiday weekend

Toronto Mendelssohn Choir
Noel Edison conducts Canada’s oldest choral ensemble, along with the Festival Orchestra and an assemblage of soloists, in a Good Friday performance of J.S. Bach’s Mass in B Minor, easily one of the baroque era’s most stirring masterpieces.
Where: Yorkminster Park Baptist Church, 1585 Yonge St., 416-446-0188.
When: March 21, 7:30 p.m.
How much: $30–$65.

Easter “Egg” Stravaganza
Rather than hunting down chocolate eggs, kids visiting the Toronto Zoo are given clues to search for an egg-laying amphibian in each of the pavilions. For children age 12 and under.
Where: Toronto Zoo, 2000 Meadowvale Rd., 416-392-5929.
When: March 21 to 24, 9:30–3:30.
How much: $14–$20.

Toronto Beaches Lions’ Easter Parade
A Toronto tradition since 1966, the Easter Sunday parade offers chocolate and bunnies galore.
Where: Queen St. E., from Victoria Park to Woodbine.
When: March 23, 2–4 p.m.
How much: free.

One of a Kind Spring Show
With more than 450 Canadian artisans, this show offers plenty of keepsakes and trinkets to brighten up your Easter weekend, including pretty spring frocks, pastel-coloured ceramics and quirky stuffed animals.
Where: Direct Energy Centre, 100 Princes’ Blvd., 416-263-3000.
When: March 20 to 24, hours vary.
How much: $6.50–$12; children under 12 free.

Easter Traditions
Take the kids to High Park’s Colborne Lodge to learn about Easter traditions of the 19th century, dye their own eggs, and search for treats hidden around the museum.
Where: Colborne Lodge, High Park, 1873 Bloor St. W., 416-392-6916.
When: March 22 and 23, noon–4.
How much: $2.36–$3.77; free with regular Colborne Lodge admission.

Good Friday Procession
The St. Francis of Assisi parish, with help from the Italian community, has been hosting this outdoor recreation of the Stations of the Cross (which now draws a crowd of about 100,000) since the early ’60s. Don’t expect Peter Cottontail—Jesus is the superstar here.
When: March 21, 3 p.m.
Where: from St. Francis of Assisi church (72 Mansfield Ave.) west on Dundas, north on Montrose Ave., east on College.
How much: free.
