Doors Open
The new store invasion
Murale
Shops at Don Mills, 1090 Don Mills Rd., 416-384-1858
Sephora addicts, take note. Shoppers Drug Mart’s new beauty emporium carries ultra-exclusive fragrances, cosmetics and skin care lines, like Beyoncé-approved Natura Bissé (the Inhibit-Tensolift cream is $900). An aesthetician and pharmacist are on hand for serious skin therapy. Sept. 4.
Brooks Brothers
Royal Bank Plaza, 200 Bay St., 416-368-0162
The preppy purveyor of tasteful business attire (Barack Obama is a fan) isn’t messing around with its first Toronto outpost. At 22,000 square feet, it stocks classically tailored suits, as well as the new Mad Men–inspired collection from designer Thom Browne. Aug. 26.
Shared
82A Bathurst St., 647-348-3374
Made from premium organic supima cotton, Shared’s basics (we especially like the company’s tees, hoodies and Henleys) already have a Toronto fan base eagerly awaiting the first dedicated shop. Maybe it’s because all the clothes are knitted, dyed and sewn right here in the GTA or because 50 per cent of the profits go to charity. More likely, it’s because they’re the softest shirts you’ll ever put on. Move over, American Apparel. Sept. 19.
Love the Design
1084 Queen St. W., Studio 3, 416-408-1727
Stationer Christine Flynn brings her graphic design–inflected invitations and paper goods to this Queen Street loft, where clients can enjoy a cappuccino and experience her work in a living room–like setting. Sept. 22.
The Room
The Bay, 3rd flr., 176 Yonge St., 416-861-6251
The St. Regis Room, the city’s first luxury shop (established in the 1930s), introduced us to Balenciaga, Givenchy and Schiaparelli. But the jewel of the Bay empire lost its lustre over the years. Bonnie Brooks, The Bay’s new CEO, is resurrecting it. The space has undergone an extensive gut job (courtesy of Yabu Pushelberg). Special suites will offer VIP clients a space to change and will also be used for trunk shows and wardrobe consulting. October.
