The Briars
Whisk Mom off to the lush atmosphere of this Lake Simcoe resort, where the gastronomic delights are masterminded by executive chef Trevor Ledlie. The former sous-chef at swish Yorkville resto Pangaea has designed dinners that could include a starter of poached beets followed by sweet-potato ravioli with portobello and goat cheese; or pan-seared salmon with crisp potatoes, wilted spinach and leeks. If you really want to give Mom a treat, look into the Briars’ Mother’s Day weekend deal: a two-night stay that includes a welcome gift, historical tour and six meals, including a special brunch on Sunday. Prefer a day trip? Make the hour-long drive from Toronto to The Briars in the morning, allowing for an afternoon round of golf and a stroll through the grounds before heading to the Garden Court dining room.
Where: 55 Hedge Rd., RR 1, Jackson’s Point, 905-722-3271 or 416-493-2173.
How much: dinner, mains $22–$44; getaway, $318 double occupancy (special Mother’s Day price $258, double occupancy for moms only).

Auberge du Pommier
Though usually closed on Sundays, the doors to this North York institution will be thrown open for Mother’s Day. Chef Jason Bangerter will be preparing Auberge faves from the à la carte menu, like pigeonneau au jambon: roast squab and braised ham hock with organic parsley root, sage and almond pommes Macaire. On the lighter side, he will be offering his crispy thon deux façons: a seared tuna steak and spiced tuna tartare wrapped with black-pepper grilled pineapple, and fennel salad. Dine under the soft lights and stone walls of the interior or on one of the garden terraces, where it’s easy to imagine you’re overlooking the rolling hills of Provence. Reservations recommended.
Where: 4150 Yonge St., 416-222-2220.
How much: mains $36–$46.

Marcel’s
For the perfect post–Dirty Dancing feast, try the special Mother’s Day menu at theatre district mainstay Marcel’s. Starters at the King West bistro are sophisticated, like peppercorn pâté and wild berry chutney or smoked salmon with Bermuda onions and capers. Hungry mamans can go decadent with the rack of lamb served with a rosemary-juniper reduction, spaetzle and vegetables. The traditionalist mom, however, should go for the steak, which is served bistro style with frites and beurre maître d’hôtel. Be sure to save room for dessert: choices include a zesty lemon tart, smooth crème caramel and rich chocolate profiterole.
Where: 315 King St. W., 416-591-8600.
How much: $37.50 per person.

Plaza Flamingo
If Mom is more Seville than Strasbourg, head to Plaza Flamingo for the ultimate in Mediterranean fare. Carb lovers rejoice: Valencian paella, arguably the best known dish in Spanish cuisine, is rich and satisfying, served in a traditional dish overflowing with chicken, Spanish chorizo and seafood. Those looking for a lighter meal could order salmon Montemar: grilled salmon topped with a sauce of kalamata olives and fresh tomato. Or do as the Spanish do and order tapas to share; Plaza Flamingo has everything from calamari to empanaditas.
Where: 423 College St., 416-603-8884.
How much: à la carte, $10–$15.

Didier
On Mother’s Day weekend (Friday and Saturday night), Didier will be offering its summer menu format: a three-course prix fixe that includes a choice of six appetizers, mains and desserts. The real star of the evening, however, is the tasting menu. Chef Didier Leroy’s set bill of fare includes an amuse-bouche, a medallion of Quebec foie gras, fillet of sole, beef tenderloin and a fresh lavender crème brûlée. It’s finished with a dainty collection of pastries served with an after-dinner coffee.
Where: 1496 Yonge St., 416-925-8588.
How much: prix fixe $65 per person, tasting menu $85 per person.
