Good Stuff Cheap

The Designer Buys

When feathering the nest, it’s easy to be tempted by big-ticket beauties. We asked five top interior designers for their personal picks in cheap (-ish) chic home decor By Dory Carr-Harris

Powell & Bonnell

His pick: Bound sisal rug
Where to nab it: Pottery Barn, 100 Bloor St. W., 416-962-2276.
Rationale: “This rug provides great texture on which to ground a furniture arrangement. It’s affordable enough to ‘fill’ a standard-size room. One failure of beginners is not selecting a carpet that is scaled properly. It should come within one to two feet of the wall, so that all the major pieces fit comfortably within it.”
