The Winterlicious Chef Series, a spanking new event at this year’s WinterCity festival, pairs some of Toronto’s culinary masters with top chefs from around the word. Together they will present exclusive menus at a few of the city’s hottest restaurants. We caught up with three of the hosts—Claudio Aprile, David Lee and Guy Rubino—for insider tips on eating in Toronto.

Claudio Aprile of Colborne Lane

Must-try Winterlicious or Chef Series menu
It’s very hard to pick just one. However, I am a huge fan of Rain and Guy Rubino’s modern interpretation of Asian cuisine.

Favourite cheap-eats place
My current favourite place is Thai Dish—it’s right beside Colborne Lane, so it’s perfect for a quick bite before service. The pad Thai is very good.

Favourite winter comfort food
Peking duck with scallion pancakes and hoisin sauce.

Best way to work up an appetite
A full-on snowball fight with my five-year-old son, Aiden.

Drink that takes the chill off
Lemon verbena tea from Dean & DeLuca.

Worst food trend of ’07
Molecular gastronomy—it’s often misused and misunderstood.

When: Jan. 28 and 29, 6 p.m.
