Within minutes of walking into the Leslie, My Name Is Evil party at the Berkeley Church, we had three beautiful models talking to us. No, we’re not successful investment bankers. The party organizers had simply hired models to wander the party, look beautiful, and, in the words of one beautiful lady, “just make sure everyone has a good time.”
Reg Harkema, director of the film, was in fine form as well, wearing a ’60s-style suit, complete with his messy mop and biker ’stache. He hopped from guest to guest, all of whom greeted him with hearty congratulations. Harkema towered over the room, being a full head taller than almost any other guest. Still, he managed to show some grace when he busted out the dance moves on stage, twirling his jacket over his head and swinging his arms wildly. We think they call it “the cowboy.”
The Church felt like a giant house party, with plenty of ’60s rock to which the models swayed seductively. The girls told us their dresses were supposed to be ’60s themed to go along with the Manson cult-like plot of Leslie. We must have looked confused because one of the models responded: “He doesn’t get it either. We didn’t think they looked that ’60s.” We’re not sure, but we don’t think hippie flower children wore four-inch spike heels.
