First, we had to say so long to season three, with no definite plans from the CBC for season four (who knows if we’ll ever get to see who that mysterious glove belongs to). And then we find out that Temple Street Productions, the Toronto company that produces BE, has made a deal with ABC to develop an American Erica. Try saying that 10 times fast.

Word is the Canadian scripts will be adapted by American script doctor Maggie Friedman—she of the amazing Dawson’s Creek and the less amazing Eastwick—and as far as casting goes, the jury is still out on who will play everyone’s favourite time-travelling ginge, Erica Strange. Our picks after the jump.

• Judith Thomson takes a look at the most memorable fashion moments of the Obama era. The highlights: the cardi-skirt combo Michelle Obama wore to meet the Queen, Aretha Franklin’s bowed inauguration hat and Sarah Palin’s glasses. [The New Yorker]

• The fall of Eatons, the rise of fashion week, the influx of starchitecture and seven other noteworthy Toronto design moments of the oughts. [Now]

• Topping People‘s snoozy best-dressed list is Kate Winslet, who wins for her body-conscious red carpet looks. Michelle Obama scored the award for most accessible style, and Cameron Diaz has the year’s best jeans. [People]

• Celebrity style bible In Style has put together a slide show of the most daring dresses of the year. None of the looks come close to J. Lo’s plunging Versace gown from 2000, but one of our favourite TIFF outfits—Drew Barrymore’s Alexander McQueen tattoo dress—made the cut, though we’d hardly call it risky. Barrymore’s dye job, on the other hand… [In Style]

• Probably the only best-dressed list on which Hills star Kristin Cavallari appears is from Seventeen. Maybe we shouldn’t be so surprised—they also named Miley Cyrus the Style Star of the Year. [Seventeen]

• With nary a Hills cast member in sight, Teen Vogue’s 2009 best-dressed list includes such edgy picks as MIA, Kristin Stewart and Manhattan DJ Harley Viera Newton. But Disney princess Selena Gomez (Wizards of Waverly Place) nabs the top spot. This is a magazine for tweens, after all. [Teen Vogue]

• Starting with Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards and ending at “zippers,” an A to Z guide to the year’s biggest style moments. [Flare]

• The definitive roundup: Style.com’s Year in Style, subtitled “welcome to fashion as entertainment.” [Style.com]

If hosting an Oscar-night party is your kind of thing, then we bet kitschy movie-themed drinks and snacks are, too. So, we’ve compiled the best ideas for Sunday night, starting with celebrity cocktails from Gourmet.

Does this man taste like this cocktail? (Mickey Rourke from korbybanner.com, drink from Gourmet)

• Ever wondered what Mickey Rourke would taste like if he were a cocktail? Neither had we. Nonetheless, Gourmet has attempted to figure it out (tequila, bitters and blood orange juice), creating nine other drinks inspired by such Oscar nominees as Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Meryl Streep. [Gourmet]

• The Kitchn has suggested food pairings for all the best picture nominees. How about the Hannah Schmitzel with a strong Kate Winslet? [The Kitchn]

• Toronto chef Massimo Capra (of Mistura and Sopra Upper Lounge) recommends a somewhat more posh party menu that includes seared Kobe beef on truffled potato croquettes and a ceviche-style shrimp cocktail. [Globe and Mail]

• If finger food won’t cut it, Epicurious’s Complete Oscar Package offers multi-course (if predictable) dinner ideas for all the best picture noms (New Orleans fare for Benjamin Button, Indian for Slumdog Millionaire) and a menu created by Wolfgang Puck. [Epicurious]

• For some, whipping up a four-course American-British meal in celebration of Frost/Nixon is too much work for a Sunday, so Delish has 10 easy-to-make party appetizers, like fig and stilton squares. [Delish]
