TIFF PHOTO GALLERY: Robert De Niro, Clive Owen and Jason Statham at the Killer Elite red carpet

Compared to Friday night’s Brangelina-induced hysteria, yesterday afternoon’s red carpet presentation of Killer Elite was relatively subdued—especially considering the trifecta of badasses in attendance. Old-school badass Robert De Niro has clearly done this way too many times: he couldn’t muster the kind of enthusiasm that other red carpet stars like Brad Pitt or George Clooney still manage to put out there. He was quiet and courteous—but nothing more. Jason Statham, on the other hand, was all winning smiles and brash cockney banter, although he refused to take off his sunglasses (but we still managed to catch him without them). Clive Owen looked rather Bond-ish (yes, we know, he hasn’t played that role—yet). He was followed by the lady of the hour, statuesque Yvonne Strahovski, who appeared to relish being the only female in a sea of manly men.

At A Dangerous Method’s party at Soho House, A-list celebrities outnumbered the common folk

Ryan Gosling is with this guy (Dave Matthews) (Image: Soho House)

The sheer abundance of A-listers at A Dangerous Method’s party at Soho House put celeb gossip mongers on overload, and by 2:30 a.m., the party was still going strong, making those working the event wish George Clooney would just go back to his hotel already so the rest of us could call it a night. Who we spotted, who they hung out with and what we overheard after the jump (plus pictures, lots of pictures).

TIFF PHOTO GALLERY: Ryan Gosling and Bryan Cranston at the red carpet presentation of Drive

The Gos is everywhere! Seriously, is this guy the new Hollywood “it” kid or what? At yesterday’s premiere for George Clooney’s new film, The Ides of March, Ryan Gosling opted to ignore the press and woo his rabid fans by signing autographs up and down the red carpet. At last night’s gala presentation of Drive, the former Breaker High star flipped the script and spent more than an hour chatting with reporters (although he did blow a few kisses to the ladies). Oh, and Emmy Award-winner and Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston was also in attendance, which would normally be a big deal, but wasn’t because he was sharing the carpet with Gos. For a second, we even thought the crowd was chanting his name—but then we realized that Bryan sounds a lot like Ryan. See the gallery, after the jump.

QUOTED: Sarah Silverman on where she fits in the celeb hierarchy

Did you see any real stars?

Then and now: Ryan Gosling and his mom walking the red carpet

Ryan Gosling showed up with his mother, Donna Gosling, as his date for the red carpet premiere of George Clooney’s The Ides of March last night, which (naturally) endeared us to him even more—but also required a double take. Mama Gosling certainly brought a touch of glam to the proceedings with her sexy silver colour scheme, although we couldn’t help but notice that she looks almost like a completely new person from the last time we spied her on the scene. And you have to hand it to her—she looks absolutely fabulous.

QUOTED: Ryan Gosling on the relationship between George Clooney and unicorns

It was really fun to work with George. [Clooney tosses a few greenbacks on the table.] It was more than fun; it was life-altering. [Clooney tosses a few more.] It was like watching a unicorn being born.

TIFF PHOTO GALLERY: Ryan Gosling and George Clooney and pretty much every famous person ever at The Ides of March red carpet

Dare we say it? People are really into Ryan Gosling, and in Toronto, they’re more into him than they are into—gulp—George Clooney. At the star-studded premiere of The Ides of March last night, two of Hollywood’s most handsome men arrived nearly simultaneously, and the inevitable mayhem forced security guards and volunteers to actually lean against the barricades to stop the very eager—and very adoring—fans from spilling onto the carpet. Clooney came with former W.W.E. wrestler Stacy Keibler (and her legs), and Gosling had his mother on his arm. The Canadian kid also respectfully worked the entire length of the carpet, posing for photos and signing autographs. Seriously, Gos, stop being such a total and complete package. You’re killing us over here. See the gallery, after the jump.

Evan Rachel Wood likes Justin Bieber, Ryan Gosling smokes and George Clooney is okay at Grey Goose Soho House

Don’t worry, Ryan Gosling is not proposing to Evan Rachel Wood (Image: Soho House)

Last night’s Ides of March cocktail party at the Grey Goose Soho House—in a yet-to-be-named lounge space on Duncan Street (owned by club king Charles Khabouth)—might have cemented the hot spot’s role as number one celeb hangout. The star-studded cast was all in attendance—George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Evan Rachel Wood, Marisa Tomei, Paul Giamatti and Philip Seymour Hoffman—and you couldn’t swing a cat without hitting Gosling’s abs or Evan Rachel Wood’s jaunty chapeau because the party was only open to 100 people, give or take. Unsurprisingly, the ladies (and plenty of gay men) were swooning over Gosling and Clooney, and at one point it felt like the entire room had turned to face the hunky guys. (It was like we were standing in a giant elevator and everyone was facing forward.) Wood was seen in a Greta Garbo–type power suit and brought four girlfriends with her, spending most of the night chatting with them on the comfy red couches (including one talk about having Bieber Fever). Find out who Ryan Gosling went home with and a photo gallery of the party after the jump.

TIFF PHOTO GALLERY: George Clooney, Ryan Gosling and Evan Rachel Wood at The Ides of March press conference

Ever the playful (if somewhat glib) trickster, George Clooney was all jokes at The Ides of March press conference yesterday. Flanked by the biggest A-list cast at the fest, Clooney tossed dollar bills at Ryan Gosling in exchange for compliments and, it appeared, goosed Evan Rachel Wood’s leg under the table. Gosling was mostly stoic, playing the brooding heartthrob (as expected), but did break character to talk about working with Clooney qua director. “It was really fun to work with George,” he said. George smirked and tossed him a few greenbacks. “It was more than fun; it was life-altering.” George tossed a few more. “It was like watching a unicorn being born.” See the photo gallery, after the jump.

George Clooney lays the smack down when asked about his dating life at the Ides of March press conference

Items not up for discussion: this man’s love life (Image: Lia Grainger)

This just in: George Clooney does not like to be asked about his love life. When a cheeky reporter at today’s press conference for The Ides of March—featuring a blockbuster all-star team of Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Evan Rachel Wood and Marisa Tomei—dared to inquire which was harder, directing, or dating in the public eye, Hollywood’s leading Casanova fired back, with authority.

Clooney: “What’s your name”
Reporter: “Paul.”
Clooney: “What’s your last name, Paul?”
Reporter: “Chi.”
Clooney: “Everyone remember Paul Chi and his hard-hitting interview. Go back to your editor and tell them you asked that question, Paul.”

End of discussion.

SPOTTED: George Clooney gives a friendly salute to his adoring public

George sort of waves to fans at the Ritz-Carlton (Image: Ken Munday)

A Toronto Life tipster shared this shot of George Clooney heading back to the Ritz-Carlton less than 24 hours after being spotted there just last night (we’re starting to think he’s sleeping there with rumoured flame Stacy Keibler). Philip Seymour Hoffman and Ryan Gosling were soon to follow, so perhaps this is just another one of those celebrity-only lunches that we’ve heard so much about. Is the Ritz-Carlton becoming Toronto’s The Ivy?

SPOTTED: George Clooney, Stacy Keibler and Jason Reitman enjoying a friendly chat at the Ritz

The CBC had a mole inside the Ritz-Carlton last night and managed to spot a friendly get-together among George Clooney and some pals. The star was seen with rumoured girlfriend Stacy Keibler on his arm (careful George, she’s a former wrestler) as the pair ran into Montreal-born Jason Reitman, who directed Clooney in the 2009 TIFF film Up in the Air. Pleasantries were exchanged (and photographed, hazily).

George Clooney has saved lives as Dr. Doug Ross, robbed casinos as Danny Ocean, fired a whole lot of people as Ryan Bingham, and now he’s headed to Toronto for TIFF 2011. Publicists have confirmed that Clooney, the eternal bachelor, will smile upon us once again at the festival this year. He’ll be promoting The Ides of March alongside Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ryan Gosling, Marisa Tomei, Evan Rachel Wood and Paul Giamatti. Clooney will also be promoting The Descendants, a film adaptation of Kaui Hart Hemmings’s novel. Again, he’s still single, so there’s that to look forward to as well.
