Guests arrive at the One X One charity dinner in Forest Hill

It was a sea of expensive cars, valets and security personnel on Dunvegan Road in Forest Hill last night, as Ed Rogers played host to about 220 guests for his annual One X One charity dinner. The dinner was catered by E-A-T, and tickets cost $5,000 each. Guests began showing up around 5 p.m. to await the arrival of Matt Damon and Bill Clinton.

PHOTO GALLERY: Chloe premiere with Amanda Seyfried, Julianne Moore, Atom Egoyan and Jason Reitman

Amanda Seyfried at the premiere of Chloe. (Photo by Karon Liu)Full disclosure: we arrived at Roy Thomson Hall yesterday around 4 p.m. to secure a spot behind the barricades for the Precious premiere that night and completely forgot about the gala for Atom Egoyan’s Chloe earlier in the evening.

However, things worked out for the best as we had the best view to catch a glimpse of stars Julianne Moore and Amanda Seyfried (Liam Neeson pulled out of TIFF after the death of his wife) as well as Egoyan and Jason Reitman (his dad Ivan also made an appearance). Mayor David Miller, apparently suffering from a George Hamilton-level faux tan, walked to the red carpet instead of arriving in a car, but his thunder was quickly stolen when Seyfried arrived seconds later.

We’d like to thank Oprah for this bountiful gift.

The day TIFF stood still: the Oprah, er, Precious premiere

Precious moments: Oprah Winfrey clasps her hand to heart at the world premiere of Precious (Photo by Karon Liu)

First the Beatles performed on The Ed Sullivan Show. Then Tim Hortons opened in New York. And now, Oprah Winfrey comes to Toronto.

We stood at the exact same spot for seven hours last night at Roy Thomson Hall to capture our red carpet photos of Oprah Winfrey, Mariah Carey, Tyler Perry, Sherri Shepherd, Gayle King, Mary J. Blige and others. Still, we were latecomers; the girl beside us arrived at 8 a.m., and others started rolling in at 10 a.m. By six we could see a current copy of O Magazine in every direction (what else would Oprah sign?), which probably produced a spike in magazine sales and a possible solution to save the print industry.

A limo driver dishes on chauffeuring George Clooney

A smile to swoon for (Photo by Karon Liu)

Like most of TIFF’s A-list, George Clooney and company drive to and fro in Richmond Limousines. We asked one of the Men in Black Mercedes what it’s like to chauffeur TIFF’s most-chased entourage. His response? Far more sigh than gush.

“I’m driving until 3 a.m. again tonight,” the driver told us. “It’s so busy. Every night I’m driving someone I recognize from a magazine, but I’m bad with names.”

What’s been the craziest trip so far?

We hit up Coco Rocha at the Holt Renfrew fash bash

Holt Renfrew took their annual gala, always the festival’s most fashionable bash, to new heights last night—the very top of The Burroughes Building, much to the dismay of spike-heeled attendees. No sooner had we reached the top of our social climb, joining Westons and Queen Westers alike, when we heard a dismayed gasp coming from a woman staring at Coco Rocha.

George Clooney makes his last TIFF-related public appearance in Toronto

Gorgeous George: Clooney arrives at the Up in the Air premiere at Ryerson Theatre

This city just can’t get enough of George Clooney. People lined up for more than five hours at the Ryerson Theatre to catch a glimpse of him one last time for the premiere of Up in the Air. Unlike the last premiere, this venue and its red carpet are much smaller, so the media was relegated to one side and fans were on the other. Since priority is given to the press, the stars walked the media line as publicists, assistants, security and TIFF volunteers stood behind the celebs, blocking the fans’ view.
