What it is: The Right Hand Gal, a Canadian jewellery company by sisters Shawna and Randi Herlich, have created a special piece called Noble, a play on the phrase “no bull” in support of anti-bullying causes. The company launched a gifting suite this year at the InterContinental (like Ben Sherman, Alliance and the Tastemakers Lounge before them) to hand out their Noble pendant.

TIFF 2011 Roundup: Emily Blunt, Juliette Lewis and Vanessa Paradis are among TIFF’s worst dressed
During TIFF, we’re lucky enough to see a lot of celebrities, and because it is a festival, they usually pull out all the stops. But sometimes there’s a noticeable lack of commitment to dressing to the nines, and sometimes we just don’t understand why celebrities choose to dress the way they do, like Emily Blunt who proved to us that even gorgeous women can’t pull off a wide-legged, sleeveless, could-be jumpsuit with bodice detailing at the Salmon Fishing in the Yemen premiere. We think Juliette Lewis decided to phone it for the premiere of Hick with ripped jeans, aviator sunglasses, a fedora and a cotton tee (and perhaps scarf), while the typically-stunning Vanessa Paradis looked like she may have slept in her velvet pants, bustier (complete with a peplum) and draped jacket at the premiere of her film Café de flore. Who do you think was worst dressed at TIFF 2011?

SmartWater and Bungalow 8 threw a party that was tough to get into at the Burroughes building
Last night’s Creative Artists Agency jam at the Burroughes building, sponsored by Smart Water and hosted by Bungalow 8, seemed to be where every celeb ended up after their various screenings and parties. It’s no wonder, because the CAA reps some of the world’s biggest stars. Michael Fassbender (whose exposed penis in Shame seems to be the talk of the town) finally showed up in Toronto after rumours he wouldn’t be coming, and James Franco, Jessica Chastain, Gerard Butler, Emile Hirsch, Glenn Close, Ethan Hawke, Colin Farrell, Dave Matthews and Emily Blunt were all in attendance in between any number of stops—Franco was feted by Bad Day magazine at the Hoxton with Gus Van Sant earlier Sunday night, and Blunt was spotted with Ewan McGregor at the Your Sister’s Sister dinner. Of course, we couldn’t see any of them, since they, like the cool kids in high school, spent the evening smoking on the rooftop, if they themselves could even get upstairs. Check out the scene after the jump.

TIFF Weekend Roundup: the five splashiest parties

It girl in the making Elizabeth Olson is introduced to perennial it man George Clooney. (Image: Jeff Vespa/WireImage/Getty Images Entertainment)
The first weekend of TIFF is basically one big long party, with a non-stop crush of big premieres, boldface names and tremendous amounts of running around (sleep is usually not involved). In case you missed it, here are last weekend’s five splashiest parties:
- If you haven’t already heard, the party for A Dangerous Method at Greg Goose Soho House was pretty much the best party ever. In attendance: David Cronenberg, George Clooney, Win Butler, Régine Chassagne, Bono, Keira Knightley, Evan Rachel Wood, Emily Blunt, Adam Scott, Jonah Hill, Chris Pratt, Anna Faris, Jon Hamm, Alexander Skarsgård and many more. Read our recap »
- As usual, the Vanity Fair party had all the markers of a successful TIFF bash: happy (drunken) partygoers and a stack of celebrities sticking around for more than 10 minutes (Bono, George Clooney, Elizabeth Olsen, Alexander Skarsgård and more). It also featured some rather provocative posing by The Oranges’ Allison Janney. Read our recap »
- George Stroumboulopoulos once again took over the Hazelton Hotel for his trademark mix of big stars, CBC television personalities and gawkers. We particularly enjoyed seeing Jon Hamm in full-on shaggy-hair mode (compared with Don Draper, at least). Read our recap »
- There’s something about tall, Scandinavian vampires that sets the fan girls wild, which is exactly what happened at the Melancholia party when Alexander Skarsgård (Eric Northman from True Blood) showed up. Kirsten Dunst had the good sense to smile politely and stand aside. Read our recap »
- A rather more genteel time was had at the annual luncheon thrown by famed Hollywood reporter George Christy at the Four Seasons. In attendance: Kathleen Turner, Geoffrey Rush, Norman Jewison, Atom Egoyan and assorted Mulroneys. Read our recap »
SPOTTED: Every famous person ever (well, almost) at Grey Goose Soho House last night
Apparently, David Cronenberg knows how to throw a party: pretty much every celebrity currently in town for TIFF attended the Canadian director’s party at Grey Goose Soho House last night in honour of his new film, A Dangerous Method (click here to see our photo gallery). The list of bold-faced names included: Cronenberg, George Clooney, Win Butler, Régine Chassagne, Bono, Stacy Keibler, Keira Knightley, James Righton, Evan Rachel Wood, Emily Blunt, Kate Mara, Max Minghella, Adam Scott, Richard Kelly, Jonah Hill, Chris Pratt, Anna Faris, Jon Hamm, Jennifer Westfeldt, Justin Long, Scott Porter, Jimmy Kimmel, Guillermo Diaz, Ewan McGregor, Kirsten Dunst, Emile Hirsch, Michelle Monaghan, Gina Gershon, Dave Matthews, Morgan Spurlock and Paz de la Huerta. Also, the Twitter machine provided a running commentary for the evening. Check out the highlights, after the jump.

TIFF PHOTO GALLERY: Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt at the red carpet gala for Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

Hold on, did we see Ewan McGregor in MC Hammer pants and combat boots last night? Uh, yes, we did. Really, thank goodness for that, too— we’ve seen enough tailored suits to last us until next year’s TIFF. McGregor showed up at the premier of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen rocking a baggy-at-the-crotch military look, and took time to sign the barrage of Obi-Wan Kenobi eight-by-tens that were immediately shoved in his face (a face that featured a picture-perfect five o’clock shadow). Director Lasse Hallström was also in attendance and happily posed for photographs, despite the whispers of “Um, who is that?” Emily Blunt was less amicable—she appeared disconcerted by the crush of fans and cameras on the unusually disorganized carpet at the Princess of Wales Theatre and was inside within minutes. Still, we like that she skipped the gown routine in favour of a classy jumpsuit. Of course, we also wish we could have seen more of it. See the gallery after the jump.

At A Dangerous Method’s party at Soho House, A-list celebrities outnumbered the common folk
The sheer abundance of A-listers at A Dangerous Method’s party at Soho House put celeb gossip mongers on overload, and by 2:30 a.m., the party was still going strong, making those working the event wish George Clooney would just go back to his hotel already so the rest of us could call it a night. Who we spotted, who they hung out with and what we overheard after the jump (plus pictures, lots of pictures).

SPOTTED: Emily Blunt and Ewan McGregor lunching at the InterContinental Toronto Centre
We just got wind from a source that Emily Blunt and Ewan McGregor lunched together today at the Ben Sherman lounge at the InterContinental Toronto Centre. The Devil Wears Prada star and crooning poet from Moulin Rouge were taking a—probably much needed—break from promoting their Lasse Hallström–directed film Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, which is based on the novel by Paul Torday. Celebs have got to eat, and what better way to do it than in a mid-century modern appointed hotel, overlooking an actual restaurant with commoners dining?
Find this story on our Star Spotting Map, where we plot the locations of celebrities spotted around Toronto.
CONFIRMED: Emily Blunt will be attending TIFF 2011
Publicists for Emily Blunt have confirmed the star of the film Salmon Fishing in the Yemen will be in attendance at the festival this year. We just hope she doesn’t suffer through the same diet her character Emily went through in The Devil Wears Prada for TIFF 2011. We like her just the way she is (seriously, she’s amazing).

TIFF 2011 announcement: 53 films, one new venue and a whack of stars who might come to Toronto

Sarah Polley’s Take this Waltz is one of this year’s Galas
TIFF unveiled part of its 2011 lineup today, and 53 movies will have their North American or world premieres in Toronto this fall. Among the spectators at the press conference this morning in Toronto was a solitary celebrity—actress and director Sarah Polley—but expect lots of boldface names in the city come September. Directors whose films are slated for this year’s fest include Lars von Trier, Francis Ford Coppola and Marc Forster, and they could come accompanied by such stars as Olivia Wilde, Juliette Binoche, Carey Mulligan, Blake Lively, Glenn Close, Vincent Cassel and Ice Cube (yes, of the famed Are We There Yet? and Friday). Those are just some of the famous faces that we’re hoping to spot at Sassafraz, pop-up nightclubs and the latest TIFF venue, The Princess of Wales Theatre. We’ve compiled a full list below.

London calling: Canuck designers take centre stage during London fashion week
Canadians are getting a lot of attention from Londoners during the city’s fall-winter 2010 fashion week. The designers have politicians’ wives in a tizzy, American pop stars are paying personal visits, and the shows are the setting for controversy and catfights. Here, an introduction to three must-know Canucks—all with Toronto connections—who are dazzling Britain.

PHOTO GALLERY: The Young Victoria premiere with Emily Blunt, Rupert Friend and Sarah Ferguson
The Saturday premiere of The Young Victoria was the last chance for autograph seekers and stargazers. We snapped shots of producer Sarah Ferguson, duchess of York, and her daughters, Eugenie and Beatrice. (We assume royalty isn’t supposed to give autographs since all they did was smile and wave.) But stars Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend (Keira Knightley’s current flame) posed for pics and signed autographs for the entire line while publicists tugged them toward the red carpet.

In lieu of Megan Fox, a rock star shows up at Cheval

Pope gets the eTalk treatment
Megan Fox’s expected arrival at Cheval last night was kept on the down low, as eTalk was the only other reporting team at the King Street bar.
The actress was to make a quick appearance before the midnight premiere of Jennifer’s Body at the Ryerson Theatre, but at 10 p.m. (after two hours of waiting), she was officially a no-show. Instead, we ran into ’80s new wave rocker Carole Pope of Rough Trade, who flew in from her home in New York for her film, Suck, which premieres today (stay tuned for our coverage of the after-party). “I wanted to see The Young Victoria because I heard great things about Emily Blunt,” she said. “But unfortunately it’s on the last day and I have to fly home before that.”
