The script for the new Ghostbusters III is in Dan Aykroyd’s truck right now

For everyone that has ever converted a backpack into a proton pack for Halloween (or on any other occasion—we’re not judging!) or had a certain theme song stuck in their head, we’ve got some news: Dan Aykroyd confirms that the script for Ghostbusters III in almost finished. In fact, he had it on hand when he spoke with the Canadian Press recently. “The script is in my truck, so that’ll tell you how close we are,” Aykroyd said during an appearance at an LCBO to promote his vodka line. The only problem: Bill Murray has yet to confirm he’ll participate in the sequel. “I don’t think any of us would do it if Bill said no,” Sigourney Weaver told Collider.com in a recent interview. “Why would we do that? I think the whole point is to get together and have fun,” she said. Aykroyd mimicked Weaver’s sentiments yesterday, telling the Canadian Press that “[Murray] is certainly welcome to walk in the door anytime. We love him. And it’s hard to contemplate doing it without him.” Aykroyd will appear in the film to train a whole new crew and introduce a female ghostbuster into the mix because, unlike a reluctant Murray, he isn’t afraid of no ghost.

The Weekender: Don Quixote, Canadian Music Week and six other events on our to-do list

Janelle Monáe, Jessica Greenberg in The Middle Place, and Piotr Stanczyk as Don Quixote

1. THE MIDDLE PLACE
Based on interviews with workers and residents at one of the city’s many youth shelters, this moving piece was written by young playwright Andrew Kushnir and drew significant acclaim at last year’s SummerWorks Theatre Festival. An exploration of what it means to be young and homeless, Kushnir tempers the heavier moments with the generous addition of humour. Directed by Alan Dilworth. To March 12. $29–$49. Berkeley Street Theatre, 26 Berkeley St., 416-368-3110, canadianstage.com.

2. CANADIAN MUSIC WEEK
Music lovers have been eagerly counting down the days until Canadian Music Week, and for good reason. The mind-blowing lineup is 800-plus musicians strong and includes some of the biggest names in music (think Janet Jackson, Good Charlotte, Melissa Etheridge and Janelle Monáe), as well as more than a few next-big-things (Zeus, Down with Webster and Hollerado). Oh, yeah, and there’s also the film festival, conference and awards show portions of the fest. March 9–13. Wristbands $35–$150. Various locations, cmw.net.

Dan Aykroyd says Ghostbusters 3 is almost a go

If we shilled vodka, we'd probably have to wear sunglasses inside too (Image: Chelsea Oakes)

Dan Aykroyd is doing the media rounds to promote his role as the voice of Yogi Bear in the new digital version of the cartoon. In a Q&A about the film with Globe and Mail, he let slip that a third Ghostbusters is sort of in the works. The script is complete and is “probably one of the best comic scripts I’ve ever read.” Aykroyd also divulged that it contains the “the role of a lifetime” for Bill Murray. Anna Faris is also rumoured to be involved.

The Globe also asked the actor about his Crystal Head Vodka, which the LCBO banned because of its skull-shaped bottle. Like our commenters, Aykroyd thinks the boycott is unnecessary but also inconvenient. He spends his summers in Ontario and has to drive to Watertown, New York to buy it. Aykroyd is hoping our stick-in-the-mud liquor control board will come around so we can enjoy the  Newfoundland-distilled vodka he happily pushes (and imbibes).

Spotted: Hilary Swank, Bill Murray and Helen Mirren at Roots

Hilary Swank with Roots' Michael Budman

Hilary Swank swept by Roots not once but twice on Monday. The two-time Oscar winner, in town gunning for her third as a waitress who earns a law degree to get her brother out of prison in Conviction, was all over the leather offerings. The Hangover’s Zach Galifianakis stopped by the same day to pick up a pair of  boots and Bill Murray scooped up some swag there earlier in the week. Helen Mirren also gave the store her royal endorsement. “My two favourite shops, literally in the world, are here,” she told CTV on the red carpet for The Debt. “One is Roots, and the other is Bedo.” Wait—Yonge Street’s sexy street wear shop Bedo? Here’s hoping they thank her with some sleek, low-cut evening wear.

Our favourite straight-faced party crasher, Bill Murray, was spotted last night at Buca, the amazing Italian restaurant on King Street West. He was out celebrating the premiere of Passion Play, his new film that stars Mickey Rourke as a washed-up jazz musician and Megan Fox as a winged circus freak.

Loo styles of the rich and famous

Based on some recent indecent exposure, we’re thinking the key to TIFF reporting may be camping out next to the lav. The evidence below:

1. Bill Murray may skip his own press conferences, but the actor is fairly in your face when he needs the head. During a whirlwind gala at Roy Thomson Hall, an insider was in a stall catching up on a work call when an abrupt knock was heard at the door.

Yesterday, we went to the press conference for Get Low, a film about an eccentric man who throws his own funeral while he’s still alive. While there, we learned about another eccentric fellow: Bill Murray. Murray was absent from the conference, but co-stars Robert Duvall and Sissy Spacek were there along with the film’s director Aaron Schneider and producer Dean Zanuck (son of legendary producer Richard D. Zanuck of Cocoon, Driving Miss Daisy and more).
