Battle of the best-dressed divas

Right before the long weekend, the Star released its Best Dressed list, an annual tally of the most enviably togged Torontonians. (Or at least that’s the idea. Hey, Beckerman sisters, Rainbow Brite called…) This year’s cover girl honours went to Suzanne Rogers, the 40-something spouse of Edward Rogers and a famous fashion queen or fashion victim, depending on which side of the beehive you stand on. But we digress. On the front page of the Living section, Rogers posed in a white Marchesa gown with a fitted top and layer upon layer of tulle (or at least we think it’s tulle), creating a sort of wedding cake–worthy tier effect.

The look was most definitely dramatic, but we couldn’t shake the feeling that we’d seen it before, which is when we remembered last year’s Best Dressed winner, Stacey Kimel, who posed in a somewhat similar Sarah Jessica Parker–meets–Little Bo Peep look (hers was Giambattista Valli).

Of course, this leaves us with a few unanswered questions:

1)   Who wore it (“it” being a light-coloured, runway-tested, hand-crafted couture tutu) better?

2)   Was Suzanne’s similar look a conscious attempt to one-up her rumoured fashion rival?

3)   How many mermaids were killed in the making of these frocks?

  1. Mrs Rogers is graceful and elegant. A joy to see in her finest. Mrs Kimmel is a little to obvious reminds me of the old Guess Who song. If you know what I mean.

  2. No, I don’t know what you mean Mr. Bespokeman. I think SK is the clear winner in this fashion faceoff. The dress is far cooler, plus, she’s young enough to wear it.

  3. Gee, GG, I’m pretty sure they’re roughly the same age, with SK looking at least five years older than SR because of her well-known lifestyle issues (and constant envy burns something out of you too). SR has an actual figure and a genuinely gracious personality… no contest.

  4. Haha Bruno- your commentary is turning this article into a Canadian version of that scandalous SocialiteRank.com (RIP). And I like it!!
SR wears it better. And dammit, she’s a Rogers!

  5. I doubt Rogers even knows who Kimmel is.
She is in a different status and class.
Hardly a rivalry! Rogers looks serene.

  6. I’m sure Kimmel is laughing in 2009 photo was because
Rogers wasn’t there. Rogers looks beautiful and elegant.

  7. Wow this is fun!! Rogers could have worn a potato sack on that cover and she would have looked like a million bucks (no pun intended). SK tries TOO hard all the time, so boring. What’s next? ‘Battle of the Birkins’??? I can hardly wait!

  8. While Rogers was curtseying to the Queen Monday night and is constantly giving her time and money to charity; Kimmel is organizing her closet.

Rogers is a consumate lady shining with beauty and grace.

    No contest on any level!!!

  9. This is an interesting conversation… I believe SR is the hands down winner, in fact not sure that SK even belongs in this category.
What i’ve read about SR is that she is focused on charity and children, while SK is only focused on trying to make people forget that she was a stripper at the Brass Rail
    Two very different leagues!

  10. I’m sorry, did I misread the headline? I thought it said Best Dressed not Best Charity person. No disrespect to SR’s admirable work, but as far as FASHION goes, it’s no contest. SK wears the dress with style. SR looks like she’s about to fall down a rabbit hole!

  11. Stacey Kimel is trying to buy and flaunt her fame in this bad economy. She is a poor version of Paris Hilton. This is definately Mrs. Rogers’ neighbourhood.

  12. I cannot possibly judge this contest without seeing a picture of Stacey Kimmel sitting in a giant chair.

  13. There is no possible way that SR can beat SK in this competition. I have seen both these women in person and the amount of botox in SR’s face you would think that she is hooked up to an IV every night. If you call Texas housewife meets Ivana Trump competition?…well than I have a Charles James dress I would like to sell you.

Also in a recent article about SR she mentioned that she doesn’t buy Haute Couture. While SK was spotted in the front row at the recent Christian Dior Haute Couture show. How did SK get there? To compete with SK you would have to be on her level and Suzanne is not.

SR is a follower. SK is the leader.

But please ladies let the battle begin.

  14. People! Please can’t we just learn to get along?
