Topshop and Topman officially have a home at The Bay at Yorkdale, and not one, but two pop-up shops
The Bay has announced that U.K. imports Topshop and Topman will arrive at Yorkdale this September. Topshop will be joining others like J. Crew (slated to open this summer), and Victoria’s Secret and Burberry, which also opened their first Canadian outposts at the out-of-downtown mall.
Downtowners needn’t despair though; The Bay has planned a pop-up shop next weekend from June 17 to 19 at Queen and Soho, and a capsule collection of Topshop favourites curated by Toronto’s Tommy Ton opening June 30 at the Queen Street Bay flagship. Who would have guessed Toronto’s hottest place to get fashion-forward duds would be where we watched our first R-rated movie and overstayed our welcome at the Rainforest Café?
Have you ever been to Yorkdale? Is it really that surprising that fashion could be found outside of the downtown T.O. bubble? Fashion does exist north of Bloor and housed in the country’s highest grossing malls, seems like a fitting location to me.
I am so happy Topshop is coming to Canada!! I fell in love with this store while I was studying abroad this year. The flagship in London at Oxford Circus is such a surreal shopping experience! I hope our Canadian location will be just as amazing!
It’s not surprise the suburban malls are often putting the downtown ones to shame. The clientele is younger in the suburbs with new families and their teenaged kids (downtown is older singles; a generalisation, for sure, but not that inaccurate!), the rent is cheaper as there is more space and a shoppe from the U.S. takes less of a risk going there than downtown. Malls don’t belong downtownm, anyway. Eaton Centre destroyed Yonge st as all those shoppes should be on the street. Mind you, in the heart of winter/summer it’s nice to shop in a heated/air conditioned environment! Lol. x
@Dtowner — Not sure Yorkdale is the right place for this. Yorkdale clientele is mostly suburb dwellers whose sense of fashion doesn’t extend much beyond the brand names that everyone else is strutting around in (gotta have that Coach purse! The more logos/branding the better!). That mall is a nightmare. Maybe I’ll be wrong, but I think downtown would have made more sense (preferably in a stand-alone shop).
who cares..toronto fashion sucks!. i just went to milan, and the italians make Torontonians look like homeless people.
