Target announces planned site locations for its 2013 Canadian arrival
It turns out there’s a lot of info about the Target on our backs—slotted for 2013—that wasn’t available until recently. First, the Hudson’s Bay Company is subletting their Zellers stores for slow, long-term renovations, meaning one day, some (but not all) Zellers locations will vanish, and in their place will be Target stores at the following spots: Woodbine Centre, Cloverdale Mall, Shoppers World Danforth, Centerpoint Mall, Bridlewood Mall and East York Town Centre (in addition to several unconfirmed shops throughout the GTA).
In January, Target paid $1.8 billion for the lease rights to 220 Zellers locations, and it intends to commit $10 million toward renovations for each site. That’s a lot of money to become Canada’s go-to place for cheap, well, everything. But with outed racist John Galliano taking over as designer for top-selling Wal-Mart brand George, and Target teaming up with big brands like Rodarte and Missoni, we figure we can almost guarantee where the fashion loyalties will lie.
This is great news for Cloverdale Mall and Etobicoke! There are so many new condo’s being built around the Kipling subway area. This key anchor tenant will keep shoppers in the area and bring more people to local shops.
WHAT IS ALL THE HYPE ABOUT …I HAVE BEEN TO TARGET IN THE U,S …NO BIG BARGINS THERE ….I AM STILL GOING TO SUPPORT ZELLERS AND GIANT TIGER AND DOLLARAMA AND OTHER CANADIAN CHAIN STORES …
Sorry to burst your bubble Brian5427, but HBC has been American-owned for years now.
Target is itself the target of anti-gay actions in the U.S., from repeatedly making donations to anti-gay candidates even after saying it won’t to losing an injunction motion to bar a marriage equality group from canvassing on their parking lot (while allowing others to do so). Recently, Lady Gaga even ended her exclusive contract with Target for its homophobia in its political actions. Plus, the media is now digging up info on training videos to Target employees warning them against unions with threat of termination or closure.
I am definitely not shopping at Target.
So many of you are complaining but I’m pretty sure
that you will be tempted to go into a Target
store once they arrive in Canada. Walmart has gone
downhill on service. I’m looking forward to
seeing Target in Canada and what they do.
