Lordy, Anthony, have you seen the many mid-aged much paunched men weighing down the streets with their hefty swagger? If you had, you would retract the thread — and in warp, and/or weft?, speed — your denunciation of the sartorial safety net: i.e., the tried and true navy blue jacket with grey flanns and prep school striped tie. I, for one, am heartily grateful for the never min’ the “good” old boy stand by, for most men, as well as their paunches, of a certain age certainly benefit– in addition to the wee tykes, that is.
As for the not so wee nor so mid, but somewhere in between, am hearitly fed up, for they sure enuff could use the sartorial equivalent. The mishmash-potluck adorning the limbs, i.e.,the Marc Jaocbs/McQueen legacy of grungy-can’t tell what sex the male (or female)is — and why bother for so epicene these days anyways — leaves me hankering for somethin’ far more a satisfyin’ when a glancin’ upon the male, the good ol’hearty t-bone and buttery potatoes with a scotch smoothly chasing down match: the “Look Ma! The down home Manly Male with a dollop of citified grace a la Cooper, Gable, Stewart, and on an even more urban-refined but still very male note, Grant, is on the picnic table once again!”
Till then, I am a fearing that my eyes will never see their glory agin but have to keep dieting –indeed, will all too soon find selves famished. Yee haw! — at least the BB is in town to round up the very lost strays.

Everyone’s comments are well taken. I’ve been in plenty of Brooks Brothers stores in my life, don’t you worry.

But if I’m so wrong about my points, why does any average businessman in say, Milan or Berlin or Paris (who likely earns much less than most Bay Street types) look so sharp while the average businessman in North America looks like a absolute slob. Explain that one. Enjoy North American ‘style’.

Honestly, I don’t understand the drama…it doesn’t matter what label you put on anything anymore….it’s all made in China anyway…get a grip! It is what it is, personally I choose not to buy anything “made in China”, Harry, Brooks, Barney’s and Holts, what a silly waste! I know, I know…and you only buy imported cars! How shallow you’ve become…fashion and possessions unfortunately are not bigger than the state of your country, it’s people, life or health..There are bigger and far more important things than this! Lovely to have BB in Toronto! This means I can actually buy some clothing in the city where I live!!

Maybe this can help Toronto along with their “fashion victim” way of putting themselves together.

BB does NOT only have ONE look, the white button down shirt, blue blazer etc.

Where are you getting THAT one from?

I’d bet a good amount of money that you’ve only surfed their website and not gone into the store. You speak like you’re uninformed about this.

Donna: Now, you’re starting to make some sense. Bonnie has done NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING to change or re-energize The Bay. It’s still the sad, shitty, iconic Canadian dept store it always was. I can’t profess to be a whiz in everything, but really, what does it really take to jaunt over to Macy’s, Neiman, Barney’s, Bloomingdales etc. and just rip off what they’re doing? I mean how many strategy meetings must you have with each dept. to make this thing happen. And to think all that Asian work ethic has been wasted on her.

Reading an article in the G&M today (I think), Mr. Del Vecchio mentioned that BB in Toronto may offer some items that are more European in terms of look. These would be items that, from my understanding, are not in the current line-up and would be made available to the Canadian clientele. Personally, I hope so as, despite the apparent high quality that some have mentioned, there isn’t much that appeals to me on the BB website. Not a question of looking down on US style, just a personal preference that I know I am not alone in sharing. Admittedly, however, I haven’t had a chance to visit the store yet.
Anyway, great to see BB here, and I wish them the best of success.
