By now, most people know that The Bay is bringing Topshop to Toronto, and last night it held a fete and shopping event to celebrate the British brand’s arrival. DJ Lauren Burns Coady provided the music to an array of young women, including writers Sarah Nicole Prickett and Kiwi Mohamed and photographer Jaclyn Locke—at one point it became a bit difficult to discern one painfully hip young person from the next. The Topman brand didn’t have any presence at this party, but that didn’t stop model Jano Badovinac and artist Nick Fox from showing up to get their photos taken and, as one does at these sorts of things, drink. As some may have guessed, it was a very young crowd, which was likely an effort on The Bay’s part to separate the Room consumer from the younger, cooler Topshop enthusiast. We missed Suzanne Rogers. Check out the scene from last night’s party in a gallery after the jump.

This article and the captions for the accompanying images seem like they were written by Clint’ Eastwood’s character from Gran Torino.
August 11, 2011 at 6:08 pm | by hopWow, what’s up with the uber-bitchy captions? When did TL become some lame campus newspaper trying to be ‘funny’? The decline of this once-decent magazine continues…
August 12, 2011 at 8:20 am | by Kate C.I dont mind the bitchy captions actually. They’re funny, light (well except a few of them) and they’re refreshing given the usual party spread of uber poseurs that take themselves too seriously. Lighten up and let’s have some fun. It IS a party after all :) Now, if my pic were taken, I will admit that I would tremble in my boots a lil’ about what my caption would read.

August 12, 2011 at 11:05 am | by CarrawayIf you read the captions with Honey Badger’s voice, they’re pretty funny.
August 12, 2011 at 12:27 pm | by SmartiniWhoever wrote these captions should be fired. Highly unprofessional.
August 12, 2011 at 1:59 pm | by Rich GI thought the captions were hilarious ha ha ha… I’ve shared this article all over for the comedic value alone. Could really care these about the store or the people you commonly see showing up to these free booze parties. On the bright side, they all have new FB profile pics to remind us how cool they are.
August 12, 2011 at 2:37 pm | by JajajaAgreed – the photo captions are very snotty and judegemental for what looked like a great little launch party. If I was in one of these pictures I’d be very upset.
August 12, 2011 at 2:42 pm | by JMAmazing comments. They aren’t making fun of the people in them per se, but the Torontonian wannabe hipster in general. Trend following narcissistic kids who spend a lot of money to dress like they don’t have any. KATE MOSS ISN’T WEARING RIPPED JEANS ANYMORE GUYS… COMMANNN.
August 13, 2011 at 10:04 am | by abbyHa — my roommate hates the comments, and the other two of us think they’re pretty amusing. Chacun son gout, I guess.
August 13, 2011 at 10:20 am | by Frai Coolmesthese comments are bitchy and juvenile. especially all the hipster snarks. go ahead, google the author – and try to imagine what he would write about a picture of himself.
August 14, 2011 at 9:57 pm | by Glasshousesthe comments are amazingly hilarious. slightly mean, but very funny and i think meant to be tongue in cheek rather than malicious.
August 16, 2011 at 10:57 pm | by xeHow much do you want to bet the comments slagging TL are from the kids that attended the party?
The captions are spot-on, and capture everything that’s wrong with uptight local hipster culture. I wouldn’t be caught dead at a party like that.
August 17, 2011 at 6:10 am | by AlexThe tongue in cheek comments are amazingly hilarious. Just couldn’t stop laughing!Talk about Torontonian wannabe hipsters!!
August 17, 2011 at 6:46 am | by jaydeeWent into The Bay to check out topshop and top man yesterday and the entire store was beyond empty (ven these new sections that are supposed to make The Bay relevant). There is nothing remarkable about the clothes. Really expensive Joe Fresh type stuff for the most part. And if there is something worth having, some ghetto regular Bay shopper has already managed to put snags, pulls, and damages in every garment. In classic Bay style everything is on sale already. Totally not worth going to see.
