Yesterday, we reported that Vancouver’s Lululemon was killing its third-quarter results, with profits doubling and Web sales up 200 per cent. Today, the Globe revealed how the company plans to continue its success: clothes made from silver. The new Silver Luon yoga line, which launched right before the holiday retail frenzy, is being touted as stink-free thanks to being made partially with silver yarn (the clothes themselves are black). Apparently silver has smelly-bacteria-fighting powers that busy gym bunnies want so they can grab a latte or go shopping after working out without worrying about stinking up the joint. And since Silver Luon stuff is made with real silver, Lulu can charge a whack more for it: a jacket is $168 (a similar non-silver version is $118) and a tank top is $78 (regular versions are $52). We expect a premium platinum line any day now.

Less stink = clothes last longer, too!
December 10, 2010 at 11:21 am | by DeeOh please! Most of these said “gym bunnies” don’t even know what a real workout is – let alone having a problem dealing with sweat! And to make matters worse, I see more Lululemon clad ladies prancing around Yorkdale mall then I do in the gym.

Wowzers, it seems to me as though you have a strangely unhealthy dislike towards Lululemon & the people who wear it. “Prancing”, really? “Don’t know what a real work out is”, REALLY? Did a girl wearing Lululemon make fun of your JOE because you seem unnecessarily hostile. I’m a gym goer, I also climb mountains (hike, camp, snowboard etc etc) & their clothing is high quality, functional AND stylish. It looks & fits great, hence the reason why you can wear it to the gym and “prancing” around the mall – why wouldn’t you? I didn’t realize that there was a socially acceptable place to wear your Lululemon. As well, I’ve tried JOE & my Lululemon lasts about oh, 5 years longer. Yes, Lululemon is more expensive however, it has innovative ideas & style and EXCELLENT customer service… which combined with everything mentioned above, reflects in the price tag – obviously.
On another note, perhaps you should try prancing sometime, those who prance are generally lively & spirited – great qualities indeed.
