The Thing: a throw cushion that takes lounging up a notch
Bev Hisey has a mission. The Toronto-based textile designer, who recently converted her Dundas West studio into a gleaming white showroom, wants her cushions to be talked about. So she makes them in a series of shocking bright colours. And she makes them in contorted shapes. And she makes them in a blown-up pixel pattern—a nod to computer-processed precision—even though they’re all artisanal, handmade one-offs. (The dhurrie panels are hand-woven in India, then stitched together and stuffed in Toronto.) We like them for all of those reasons, but mostly just because they’re pretty. From $130. Bev Hisey Showroom, 1066 Dundas St. W., 416-703-3418.
Really? Cute. Call them pixels: Pay a lot. Call them checks: Pay what they’re worth.
$130? Seriously? Come on, people. Just make your own, at a fraction of the cost. Here’s a sample pattern – http://www.allaboutyou.com/craft/pattern-finder/sewing-projects/sewing-for-the-home/how-to-make-a-patchwork-cushion-44352
I’m really a fan of these cushions! Their made from Dhurry panels, hand-made at Goodweave-certified facilities in India, and assembled here in Toronto. I just don’t understand the negative comments! “Really?” “Seriously?” They’re not patchwork, they’re not checks, but they are original, ad given what they are, affordable!
Why is it that a person’s ignorance of the subject matter is directly proportional to their penchant for posting! As someone once said in response to negative comments about Warhol, “If its so easy, why didn’t you do it?”
I’ve been a long time admirer of Bev Hisey’s textile designs. The pillows are colourful and would brighten up any home. I’m a little baffled at the comments above. Why comment if you have nothing good to say.
Wow! I love these pillows. Colourful and bright. They would give an instant lift to any home. Actually, I saw them at Bev’s shop and they’re high quality. The Dhurry panels are strong and long-lasting. Well worth the price!
