Moss Park Armoury gets facelift, not demolished
Despite rumours sparked by its boarded-up doors—and much to the chagrin of prospecting condo developers—the Moss Park Armoury is not being demolished, it’s just undergoing renovations. The strange landmark/eyesore at Queen and Jarvis should have a new glass and aluminum façade by late summer or early fall. Until then, it will continue to provide training grounds for over 600 soldiers and reservists, and will continue to baffle people trying to get inside.
“Where’s the entrance? I can’t see the entrance,” one woman who lives near the armoury asked the CBC. No word yet on whether she found her way inside, but she isn’t the only one affected by the revamp. The news disappoints at least one enterprising developer who had been eyeing the site for a potential condo complex. Home hunters hoping to move into the slowly transitioning area, though, may find solace in the fact that the armoury can still be rented. Apparently it’s a sweet venue for bagpipe playing.
This building is an eyesore and a waste of space!
The community around it suffers and it just sits there looking all smug in it’s army building way.
This land would be better used if apartments or condos went up, all the businesses in the area have shut down or are in the process of closing and it’s a dark lifeless area!
This is wasted space and I’m sure if the army was smart they would develop the area for a greater cause? Maybe a good place to build a college? with housing for vets or students in the forces?
This building contributes to the lifeless and most crime ridden part of the city, you never hear of anyone saying they have gone for a stroll in Moss park.
Great place to get mugged and all the forces building does is just smugly watch as it happens.
Just my 2 cents…
MIchael – STFU you don’t know sh*t from shinola. If you think the army is a waste of space maybe you’d like to live in Iran or Saudi Arabia.
FYI – as a reservist for the last 10 years i’ve prevented store robberies, muggings, assaults, and others i know have done the same. many of my friends live in the area and enjoy it as much as i do. you’re opinion is typical, not interesting like you think it is. your mother is an eyesore, moss park is a facility.
The Armoury has a purpose there and houses several units which have a greater connection to the area then you can know. The last thing that is needed is more condos. Granted it isn’t the nicest looking building but at least it is maintained and not like some of the others in the area. If you want to complain about eyesores then go knock on the ROM’s crystal palace…
Just my 2 cents…
Hey Michael,
During my time as a reservist there, I tossed more tennis and soccer balls back over the fence that I can count. I guess it must be ghost doing all that playing and exercising in the park. Oh yah ,and all the dog walkers, but I guess that doesn’t count as a stroll either. How about all the kids that play in the jungle gym on the north side? Oh wait a minute I guess that’s not really “stolling” either.
As far as the building “smugly watch as it happens.”, perhaps you should direct you ire at the local police force?
The military don’t do local law enforcement, or didn’t you know that? You seem to have a deep knowledge of everything else.
Hello. Can someone please tell me why we have to honor Prince Charles and Camilla . I don’t think their nice people. These two ugly people what they done to a beautiful Lady Diana’s life they really make me sick. I like Prince Harry and Prince William put these two need to be spat upon. Respectfully Yours C. Kane
