EARTHQUAKE! Toronto media takes collective sigh of relief as they briefly get to stop reporting on the G20

Many people are reporting via Twitter that yes, indeed, there was an earthquake in Toronto about five minutes ago. CityNews had this to say: “That was just an earthquake in Toronto. More info to come,” while the Post tweeted that the tremor could be felt as far away as Ottawa. Torontoist has a similar report, and the Globe is reporting tremor testimonials from as far away as Ohio and Montreal.

The whole thing must be very exciting for media types, who get to think about something other than the G20 for 10 minutes.

UPDATE: The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting that the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.0 and was centred 50km northeast of Ottawa.

  2. I’m in car sales and was selling a car to a local customer. Just as the deal was being made the whole building started to sway and kind of shudder. Must have been one heck of a good deal to cause that. :)

  5. Man, that was a wake up call for me cause I was sleeping, and I felt my bed shaking. I thought to myself, ‘Is my alarm clock this powerful?’. i ran of course, out of the house, and joined my many neighbors in Scarborough. It’s funny to see for that one moment things like the G20 summit, FIFA, and everything else, seemed obsolete, for hundreds of people.
