Olivia Chow is the latest addition to the growing “please run for mayor in 2014” wish list. Joe Cressy, a family friend and Chow’s campaign co-chair in the 2011 federal election, went into premature election mode this week, urging the MP for Trinity-Spadina and former city councillor to take on Rob Ford. Speaking to the Toronto Star, Cressy cited Chow’s campaign skills, progressive politics and broad appeal as strengths, and worked in a Ford dis, saying, “I believe it’s time for an adult to be in charge.” Chow has already said no thanks, which puts in her in good company with another 2014 fantasy candidate, Karen Stintz, who has also insisted she’s not planning to run for the job. However, John Tory has been more vague, neither encouraging nor discouraging the people begging him to give politics another go. If he does decide to challenge Ford, it could make for some awkward moments around the Newstalk 1010 water cooler. [Toronto Star]
