ADDRESS: 1 King St. W., Unit 4901
NEIGHBOURHOOD: Bay Street Corridor
AGENT: Nadine Robbins
PRICE: $2,495,000
THE PLACE: A three-level penthouse in the One King West Hotel and Residence, a 51-storey, 29-foot-wide tower that’s been aptly nicknamed the Sliver.
BRAGGING RIGHTS: The award-winning building was famously co-developed by “condo king” Harry Stinson and David Mirvish, then infamously led to Stinson’s financial ruin when Mirvish pushed him out of the project. So what’s there to brag about? Well, for one thing, it didn’t happen to you.
BIG SELLING POINT: Super convenience. The tower is connected to the PATH and King subway station, and because it’s partially a hotel, it has room service, valet parking and housekeeping.
POSSIBLE DEAL BREAKER: Living 50 storeys up in the centre of Bay Street’s concrete jungle means you’ll be bereft of trees, which according to this report could make you sad and your kids fat.

Nope, not for me. Same as Trump Tower. Both are “appeal-less” to me.
With 1.1m cash in hand, I can get far better deal than this condo at $2.5m.

January 27, 2012 at 10:22 pm | by harry stinsonTruly magnificent indeed.. gotta be careful you dont slide down the stairs on those shiny floors. This location is much beter than Trump- no comparison and you sure as hell aint getting this much space in Trump. Nice layout.. wonder why some rooms are empty and some are ? Poor staging or it it really truly empty? Very nice indeed, with views to die for…living in canada’s thinest building. Awesome!

January 28, 2012 at 1:25 pm | by ChalbeAnd don’t forget the homeless people sleeping over the grates outside your front door. Something is truly wrong with this city when you have thousands of homeless and jobless, and then you have this type of excess all around. It is gorgeous, yes, but Toronto is pushing more and more people out of the city because it is simply unaffordable to anyone making an average living. Real estate climbs in value in leaps and bounds, yet wages don’t nearly keep pace. More people are in over their heads than ever before.

January 28, 2012 at 7:04 pm | by ImpressedMeh. Other than the view its no different than the 4,567,987 other condos on the market right now. The dark floors, white walls, dark kitchen cabinets are in every model suite you see. There is nothing unique or interesting about this place.
January 29, 2012 at 12:36 pm | by lolaI’m not a big fan of oddly shaped spaces or in this case, a sliver. In addition, having the stairs in the middle or in the living room as a focal point really distracts the ultimate view of the city. With similar but better properties selling on Wellington West, King West (TIFF), the Ritz, this building is a poor choice.

February 2, 2012 at 7:55 am | by moiI like the view you get while doing laundry, but I’m concerned about nearby buildings, can they see in? Could I not walk around my palace naked?
February 2, 2012 at 11:19 am | by LeslieThe hotel here is mediocre at best, not one I wish to permanently have my associated with my home. The unit is generic, not worth 2.5M especially in this neighbourhood, (you can’t even call this area a ‘neighbourhood’. Hopefully you never have to drive anywhere because this intersection is a nightmare. Also, you really won’t have great clear/unobstructed views because even though you’re on the 49th floor you’re still surrounded on all sides with other skyscrapers. Blah.
February 2, 2012 at 8:35 pm | by BetseyI am not sure I want Bill Downe watching me do my laundry–cool place though!
