ADDRESS: 31 Dunbar Road
NEIGHBOURHOOD: Rosedale-Moore Park
AGENT: Sarah Giacomelli, Chestnut Park Realty, Brokerage
PRICE: $3,750,000
THE PLACE: From the outside, this four-bedroom blends seamlessly with its surroundings: very Toronto, very Rosedale, very Victorian. The red bricks, however, belie the funky downtown vibe of the interior. Awash in colours like bright orange, sea blue and lime green, this house rethinks all the luxe appointments of Rosedale castles. Witness the five-piece en suite washroom, the comic-book decor, the gourmet kitchen and a wet bar covered in faux alligator skin.
BRAGGING RIGHTS: The striking wallpaper in the living rooms lives up to the name of its designer, Assume Vivid Astro Focus—a.k.a. AVAF, an art collective featured in New York Times Magazine and in the Whitney Museum.
BIG SELLING POINT: The chance to live in what feels like the world’s coolest boutique hotel, only with no other guests. Keep the decor as is and wait for the call from House and Home.
POSSIBLE DEAL BREAKER: If you’re the type of homeowner who has difficulty choosing between ecru and mother of pearl, you likely have a long redecorating session ahead.

I love this house’s dual personality! Looks like a fun place to live.
April 13, 2011 at 10:54 pm | by JessicaIf there is one thing my buyers look for its classic architecture fused with modern. On my tours of unique homes in this price range, its key that all efforts are made to have a connection made between old & new. Great pick!

April 14, 2011 at 8:54 am | by James Mullanwhat horrid taste. the poor house.
April 14, 2011 at 9:14 am | by urbanconsidering how retarded Toronto life has always been with the houses they showcase, they finally got it right! Great house. Love the use of color, something you rarely see in Toronto where we are so boring.
April 14, 2011 at 9:31 am | by PeeI have to agree with Pee (a sentence I never thought I’d write). Toronto Life has spent weeks and weeks putting up homes here that are beyond awful, but finally pulled a rabbit out of their hat here. It’s a bit over the top in places (that living room is, in a word, blech), and the kitchen is terrible. But overall, for once I wish I had the money to buy a home featured in Toronto Life.
April 14, 2011 at 9:42 am | by NFTruly such a shame!
April 14, 2011 at 10:15 am | by GabrielleI’d start dropping the price now in order to solicite any offers.
Just goes to show that money doesn’t necessarily buy good taste.
April 14, 2011 at 6:46 pm | by G_AIf Torontolife will feature 1 house every week, it has to be something very special, and this house is special in its own way. You can love it or hate it, but you have to agree that it is special. FYI – I love it.

April 15, 2011 at 11:39 am | by asTORONTO LIFE shows variety …either you like it or love it or do not buy it..simple as this..TORONTO has CANADIAN STYLE houses ..showing the good life if you have the money..
April 16, 2011 at 8:30 pm | by Brian5427It’s like watching the fall of the Roman Empire. IS a house really worth 3.75 million, even if it is in Rosedale-Moore park? It’s like Holt’s & Zeller’s opening a store together, and selling really cheap stuff for way too much money. What real estate agent thought this up. Each home featured here is crazier than the last, there is a difference between style and taste. You can buy style, not taste.
