House of the Week: $10.8 million for a Bridle Path bungalow once graced by Ryan Phillippe

ADDRESS: 78 The Bridle Path

NEIGHBOURHOOD: Bridle Path–Sunnybrook–York Mills

AGENT: Elise Kalles, Harvey Kalles Real Estate Ltd. Brokerage and Ross Anicai, Home Market Realty Inc.

PRICE: $10.8 million

THE PLACE: Ray Civello, owner of the Civello chain of salons, has put his Bridle Path bungalow up for bids. The modernist monolith features five bedrooms and six bathrooms in 10,000 square feet of space. The place could be dubbed The Entertainer: there’s a retractable 15-foot movie screen, an in-ground pool, a dining room that easily seats 12 and an industrial kitchen.

BRAGGING RIGHTS: During TIFF this year, the house hosted the after-party for The Bang Bang Club. How many homeowners can brag that Malin Akerman has been in their living room until 3 a.m.? Or that Ryan Phillippe has smoked in their backyard? Or that gossip hound Shinan Govani has sent missives from his Blackberry from their kitchen? (See pictures of the party here.)

BIG SELLING POINT: The spa—with a gym, Japanese bath and steam room, all housed in a greenhouse overlooking the ravine—was perfect for Civello, who couldn’t visit his own spas for fear of colleagues barging in with questions. The same desire for privacy would transfer to bigwigs not looking to be sociable at the Granite Club or the Fitness Institute.

POSSIBLE DEAL BREAKER: The phrase “people who live in glass houses” comes to mind. No stone throwing, to be sure, but with the pool boy potentially lingering nearby, new residents should remember to put on pants for every trip to the kitchen.

BY THE NUMBERS:

• $36,084 in taxes
• 10,000 square feet
• 15-foot movie screen
• 12 parking spaces
• 6 bathrooms
• 5 bedrooms
• 1 pool
• 1 way to lure Malin Ackerman or Ryan Phillippe back home
• 1 spa
• 1 media room
• 1 library

  2. and a better walkway, looks like it was staged if it wasn’t for the broken umbrella in on the patio…

  3. I actually showed this home to one of my clients and it was a pleasure to show! not staged, just excellent taste in design and furniture. I loved the flooring while my clients had not been mad about it, “Wenge” was the firs time I have seen it in a home in Toronto, but started noticing it a bit more after that.
The home also has a really fascinating heating and vent system which I dont think they mention anywhere.
