Rob Ford gets chewed out over Woodbine Live’s lack of progress

On BlogTO yesterday, a longtime Etobicoke-North resident verbally smoked Rob Ford over the Woodbine Live project—you know, the one the mayor called one of his biggest achievements as a city councillor. The massive development, which was supposed to create thousands of new jobs, plus a hotel, a skating rink, shops and other touristy delights, has stalled, despite receiving approval back in July 2007. The resident, Rahim Ladha, questioned whether Ford really did much to get the project approved, since he wasn’t present at several crucial meetings, and most of council supported the plan anyway. Then, Ladha hopped on his bike and headed to Highway 27 and Rexdale, where he observed that the site was bereft of cranes, trucks, workers or signs of construction. How fitting, he concluded, that the mayor’s great achievement, which was supposed to show his ability to get private sector funds for municipal projects, “five years after conception, does not exist in any tangible form.” Yikes.
