Look out, greedy corporate types—New York’s Occupy Wall Street movement is coming to the Big Smoke to protest you
Word is protesters are planning to camp out on Bay Street in the coming weeks. But because Occupy Toronto organizers didn’t comment to the Toronto Sun and Facebook likes aren’t a reliable indication of interest, it’s still unclear how many protesters will actually show up at the Toronto event. Regardless, rest assured—Bill Blair says he has this one covered. The police chief told the Sun he hopes the police will “be able to manage it safely and with minimum disruption to the city.” Who knows, if the protests get anywhere near the size of New York’s, perhaps this could be Blair’s chance for a do-over? The movement is gaining momentum in its THIRD week now and Occupations are popping up all over the country! Stand up together and use your voice to give to those without through peace and solidarity. Tax the rich and feed the poor- you are the 99%! See my Occupy Wall Street painting and Anonymous homage on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/09/occupywallstreet.html where you can also see videos of the protests and police brutality as well as get other sources for coverage of the movement.
we already tax the rich in Canada… when taxes are raised, they take the biggest tax raises too. Much of that money goes to feed the poor.
This protest is nothing but incoherent nonsense. What specifically are they protesting? Who are they trying to talk to? What are they trying to achieve. As 10 different people and you will get 10 different answers.
All I can see is people who don’t work (or stopped going to work), continuing to not work while the rest of us who happen to be the butt of your joke keep on paying taxes to support your choices.
In my opinion, the Federal Reserve Banks and the international financiers are the problem in our society. Everyone is up to their eyeballs in personal finance and either not working, working multiple part time jobs or worrying about the one they have. Just like the U.S., Greece, Italy, Spain and other governments as a whole, everyone is feeling on the brink. I believe the Occupy Wall Street and similarly the occupy Toronto movements are example of this anxiety and frustration and they are looking for a Fight Club type solution. That is, GET RID OF THE OLD SYSTEM and THE OLD MONEY. Most people don’t understand that the Federal Reserve Banks are private family run, for profit business. We can choose to eliminate them. They are doing a lousy job for the countries they provide service for and they add no value to society, yet accumulate all the wealth. If your accountant did this lousy a job with your books, you would probably get rid of him. This is the conclusion that the average person has come to without understanding the details. This system is broken. This generation and those to follow will not put up with the ‘same old’. They have no allegiance to the wealthy old money from Europe nor the crooks on Wall street, Bay Street and so on. It doesn’t matter which country people live in, nobody wants to put up with a declining level of lifestyle while watching the ultra rich keep piling it up. It is like a Monopoly game that has gone on too long with one person owning everything. The other players want the game to end and they, like the 98% of our planet’s population, will quit the old game and start the new one, given the opportunity. If it is done non violently, who can blame them and who will dare stop them.
Well hopefuly this IS NOT a repeat of last years G20. I am going to try to be down there to report, take lots of photos and update my blog with Occupy Bay Street News. See my blog at blog.redtoronto.net
