Apparently, Conrad Black didn’t get that whole “convicted felon” thing, treating cellmates “like servants” and generally being “haughty”

There’s no keeping some people down. Despite doing two years in the hoosegow for assorted financial misdeeds, Conrad Black appears not to have let his new environs change him. According to the National Post, the former newspaper magnate treated prison much the same way he treated Hollinger, Inc.: demanding special treatment from workers and somehow managing to make his fellow inmates cook for him, mop his floor, iron his clothes and more.

Quoth the Post:

Conrad Black was not the model prisoner depicted by his legal team, [but] rather he “projected the attitude that he was better than others” and treated some of his fellow inmates “like servants,” according to documents filed by the U.S. government in court.

In two affidavits sworn by a unit manager and an education specialist at Coleman Federal Correctional prison in Florida, where Lord Black spent 29 months, the former media baron is depicted as a haughty inmate and an uninspired tutor.

Wait, Conrad Black haughty? We’re shocked, really. Another testimonial says that Black was working on a new book while he was supposed to be tutoring inmates, and as his court cases started going his way he asked jail staff to start referring to him as “Lord Black.” Note to Mr. Black: Americans only really love the Royal Family, not the rest of the gaggle of British aristocracy. Plus, we’re guessing that U.S. corrections staff care even less than most. Black is supposed to be re-sentenced later this summer. We can’t wait to see what else comes out.
